THE OFFICIAL 2024 - 2025 DALLAS COWBOYS SEASON THREAD || MEH

Shariff Floyd was still on the board. Couldnt we have gotten this center next round? idk:\

No he wasn't.

Vikings got him @ 23
I think he meant before we traded our pick to the 49ers....not sure how I feel about this pick. I mean we probably could've gotten Barrett Jones in 3rd or 4th or am I reaching there?
You're right.

Forgot he was still on the board when we traded the pick. My bad.

Don't know what Jerry is thinking with these picks thus far.

Who the hell is running this draft....

Stupid *****...

my thoughts exacatly...

the center is gonna start, but we got screwed in the trade, getting the minimum in return..

the tight end isnt gonna flourish no matter how talented he is, because he isnt named witten.. word to fasono and tellus...

i dont care how much 12 personnel we run, that was too high to draft a tight end imo, when we have bigger holes to fill..

I wonder how close we were to getting those 3 picks the Vikes offered up to get back in the late 1st round?

another stupid *** draft so far

Frederick is a good pick. IF WE PICKED HIM IN THE 3RD ROUND!!!!. we do need a guard so thats the only good thing about that pick

why did we pick a TE, we never use the 2nd TE other then blocking with whitten, and mind you the staff and fans have been high as hell about james hanna soooo why take a TE?

Are we not the team with 2 DT's facing drunk driving charges and jailtime?!? Our first 4 pick shouldve addressed DL and OL. These picks they are making now could be filled with non-drafted free agents. Its usually alot of diamonds in the rough out of those non-drafted dudes.

I'm pissed we didn't take Jenkins second round..

I'm talking about when we were still sitting at 18. He was still on the board then. I guess teams saw something they didnt like. Some people had him as high as #2 on their overall big board.
Yeah cubanref pointed that out a couple of posts earlier, like I said before my bad.

The Cowboys draft has been

for the most part but I do like the Joseph Randle pick.

This article is worth reading. After reading post your thoughts.
Jerry Jones is making Romo earn that contract

I agree with this move/theory. I ahve said before that if he is really studying his more successful peers like Brady and Manning then why hasn't he cleaned up some of the things in his play? Why isn't he watching more film like they do, more involved in the offensive playcalling, and running more of a no huddle offense. Overall I think its a good thing but it should be how he naturally progressed at the position, and I think he is naturally progressing that way and being more of a leader but this might be the little nudge he needs to really execute and capitalize.

Could be great if he is really committed to doing this. It will maybe cut down on his mistakes and have more understanding of the offense.

The issue has been Jerry not FORCING Romo to be a full time QB.
Its really a combination of Jerry trying to be somewhat hands off, and all the stadium planning he has been consumed with.
The stadium has an event happening nearly every weekend of the year.
AND he got his coveted CFB Championship game, so Jerry is ready to kick some *****.
Nothing to do now but be a real owner, and learn how to be a better GM.
He is not going to fire himself, but he will get better at his job as a GM.
Im going to give my draft breakdown later. Rounds 3-6 was some serious football moves.

besides last year ive seen romo get better each season..his 2011 year was crazy..only bested by roders brees brady..but he took a step back next year..i  agree with you and i think he should be more like them...take less risks..know when to fold em..

hopefully this extra time is what it takes...a healthy defense and good oline play would help that out alot..

what else do yall think jerry has in store for the offseason??

i think free will be a june 1 cut like spears..but what free agents to get?  need a safety another tackle and guard to me.

Im still stuck on our need for DT's. No depth at all and we barley know who is going to start. Maybe they have their eye on some undrafted FA's or somethin idk. defense is still a big question mark to me without even addressing our 1a or 1b biggest need. It looks like Free is definitely out so we can have a little more cap space. Although he could be kept to compete with Parnell at RT.

For the first time ever I watched the Dallas Cowboys live feed from the war room during the draft. I was sickened by the fact Jerry Jones was calling the shots and garret had no say so in the process of selecting players. The cowboys will never have a great coach, Jerry Has too much control.

Garret would have more control if he would stop going 8-8.
He sold Jerry a bag of goods, and couldn't back it up with his production.
Jerry believed Garrett was the next young head coach with a master plan for success.

If Jerry believed in ANYONE he hired, he wouldn't micromanage every aspect of the football operations.

He took power away from Jimmy. He took it from Parcells and forced things on him. He hired Dave Campo, Chan Gailey and Wade because they let him make all the decisions.

JG has made some mistakes in his tenure, but a lot of the blame is on the GM for not being able to accumulate enough talent to really make this thing work. Bad offensive line. Bad defensive talent overall. There's about a decades worth of pretty ****** drafting and bad free agency decisions...

At what point do people stop giving Jerry excuses? LMAO at Jerry will get better as a GM.. Wake up, dude.

Y'all seem to forget Jerry Jones OWNS the team. He can make any decision at anytime.
There are times I feel like he is ruining this franchise, and lately he has seemed to recognize his faults.
Yeah there has been some bad moves over the years, but a couple of good moves and we're right back in Super Bowl contention.
It's not the GMs job to win the Super Bowl. That responsibility belongs to the head coach and his staff.
If it's anyone we should be blaming for playing piss poor football its Jason Garrett.

i kinda didnt want to hear opinions on our draft this year...seems llike for good reason...hope for the best, expecting the worst (use to be Superbowl or nothing...)

Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin joined Shan and R.J. on KRLD-FM The Fan over the weekend to discuss the NFL Draft. Here are some highlights:

How’s the draft going so far?

Kiffin: Going good. I’m fired up right now. B.W. Webb – remember that name. Yeah, we got a good safety, too. We started late, but we’re coming on fast in the fourth quarter.

It took a while to get you any help on defense.

Kiffin: I know, I could’ve watched it on TV [laughs]. But anyway, it’s all good because you know the thing about those offensive players? They convert that third-and-four…

They keep you off the field?

Kiffin: Yeah! I like that. I like that.

Talk about B.W. Webb.

Kiffin: He’s 5-10 and a half, or whatever, and sometimes they’ll get into, ‘Well, is he tall enough to play corner against the big receivers?’ But, you know what? Last time I checked, Ronde Barber at the Combine was 5-9 ¾. We drafted him in 1997 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and he’s still playing, unless he retires this year. And this is 2013. He played a lot of nickel. He became famous as a nickel corner. I’m not saying B.W. Webb is Ronde Barber, but I’m saying their height doesn’t concern you that much at the nickel spot because remember your fourth corner – you’ve got three corners on your team when you play nickel – one corner gets hurt, [the fourth corner is] one snap from being a starter. So your corners are very, very valuable.
We have a couple of good corners here now, we really do. But we need competition, and we’ve got to make sure we’ve got depth at corner. Now, the third defensive tackle is very important because if one of those tackles gets hurt – or third defensive end – it’s very important. He’s one snap away. But the fourth defensive tackle, the fourth defensive end is not one snap away. The fourth corner is one snap away.

Why were the Cowboys so excited about getting J.J. Wilcox?

Kiffin: Well, just because of our safety need. Our starting safety [Gerald Sensabaugh], we don’t have him, and our other safety has not played. Barry Church is a good football player, but he’s coming off an injury and it’s not just a sore shoulder or something like that. We just don’t have a lot of players who have played safety. We needed a safety, we really did. No doubt about it.

What type of player is Wilcox?

Kiffin: Well, he’s a good football player. He was a running back until this last year. He did not move to defensive safety until camp this year before the season started. Their need was so much at Georgia Southern that they had to have a safety, so they put him at safety. And for one year of playing defensive back, he is very, very impressive. Now, he’s still a little bit raw, but he’s a great young man and he’s going to work his tail off. He’s going to be the first guy sitting in the first row. And those kind of guys, I like those kind of players because they’ve got a lot of energy, and when you meet in practice and you watch the tape and stuff, they develop quicker than somebody that’s just, ‘Hey, this is pretty neat.’ No, this is the NFL. Let’s go
