The Official Photography Thread - Vol. 3

sup guys, need some advice.

I'm currently snapping with my Canon 60d 50mm 1.4 or 35mm 1.4. I seen a guy selling a Canon 5d MII on craigslist and was wondering if i should pull the trigger. I had been looking for a chance to upgrade to a full frame and i was just wondering if its a good deal. He's selling the camera body for $1100 but offered to "trade" my 50mm and $1000 for the 5d and the 430 exII speedlite.

Pretty good price. How many clicks?

That's a damn good price if it's in good condition and depending on how many actuations it has.

I see the 5D mk II's go for $900 - $950 in 8/10 condition. I would try to knock it off at least a buck if I were you. Maybe $1100 if it were almost immaculate.

Anyone ever hear of that? I wasn't aware Google had photo editing tools past Picasa. Apparently it's a Lightroom plug-in and LR is my main post-processing tool anyway. I stumbled upon it while on my dad's desktop. I typed "nik" and hit enter because I'm so used to Chrome auto-completing to Niketalk

I'll probably try out the free trial and if I end up liking it I'll "do some more research" if you catch my drift.

Thank you!

Still a bit of imperfection, but it was quite the poor man's set up. I'll try to post more.

I've done similar white back drop set up with smaller objects, but decided to try with my dog.
Thanks my dude!

What type of lighting did you use?

For those of you guys that shoot weddings or have clients, how are you delivering images? Prints? usbs? packaging? proofs, etc.....

I know a lot of people just want digital files but I feel like they never make it past FB or IG.

I'm working on focusing on prints now more than digital. I send emails (or series of emails).

Do you have your prints done online and then shipped to you/customer? How much more of a premium, percentage wise, do you charge for the prints, in comparison to what it cost you to have it made?

Can't wait to see that!! How would you say medium format is compared to 35mm/APS-C?

it's a huge difference in so many ways. i've shot 35mm film for years and then eventually digital so the ratio i was always accustomed to was 3x2 or 4x3, so jumping from that to 6x7, you will change the way you frame and compose for sure. ive been shooting medium format for a bit, so i am completely used to it now, but it was a bit intimidating at first. on gigs, i will switch between 35mm, to mamiya 7ii and recently i have added the sony a7 to the mix.

also, the detail and color and just the way medium format film captures images is so amazing. skin tones look especially lovely, too. after shooting medium format and experiencing those things, shooting digital was just not fun to me. if it were not for commercial work, i honestly would never ever shoot digital again. but i must say that the sony a7 is fun and sometimes, i have photographer friends ask me if i used the mamiya and cropped because the sony a7 colors and details are just so incredible.

it's def not for everyone, but it is a lot of fun. it will make you think way more about the shot, too. i get 10 shots per roll of 120 film, so i am definitely not wasting any time with shots that have no meaning to me. i would also say it's not a camera for every occasion, too. there's a time and place for using it.

if you're really interested in more, email me undertheradarexhibit@gmail.com. or if you want to get into it, you can find various medium format cameras for fairly cheap. i would browse around on KEH.com and check out various mamiya, hasselblad, contax, pentax or like a fujica 690. the one i use is not cheap, but i wanted it because it's a rangefinder that is very portable and easy to handle, which i really needed.

Thanks man!

awesome, would you ever consider shooting medium format digitally? obviously not the same as film, but definitely closer...I know medium format lenses are a bit larger than 35mm but have you adapted any of those lenses to your a7?

Was in Taipei about week ago (does shmoney dance) Nawz!. I made a huge mistake shooting at a high ISO and making the sky and clouds look really grainy and noisy in several photos. Is there a way to salvage them? I've been trying to correct the Noise Reduction in Lightroom, but thinking that maybe it can only be achieved in photoshop. They're presentable on a smaller screen but when viewing on a comp it becomes an eye sore. Does anyone have any recommendations or suggestions to remedy this? Some from a recent trip to Seoul & Taipei.
