I can't believe these two women are still slugging it out... Robson REALLY needs to work on closing matches out. She should have already finished the press conference by now. Kvitova is also on and off...
The quality of this match has been so So many errors and close to 30 double-faults between them... These 2 are definitely better than what we're seeing here. A serious case of winning-ugly or doing what's necessary when you're not playing your best... applying to both girls. Take 2 for Laura... here we go.
I don't see Robson sticking around in this comp for too long. Someones getting fired tonight with that mic error.
^ I think they've been having mic issues all day... SMH. But playing like this, Sloane will easily win. She definitely needs to find her form, and fast. I think they only had a handful of meetings...? But ultimately you can't compare them based on their primes... the game's changed too much. The racquet technology, the strings (huge difference) as well as the court surfaces. Wimbledon's a lot slower now and the grass/surface is much more consistent... allow for more baseline rallies. I remember an interview with McEnroe saying how poor some of the grass courts were back in the day (at Wimbledon too) that everyone tried to charge the net at every opportunity they got to avoid getting into long rallies and risking having to play balls on bad-bounces. As such, players back then had to adapt to the different playing conditions and equipment they had, while nowadays, the game's a lot more physical... a lot of long rallies and defense. The polyester strings nowadays allow players to hit the ball with much more spin than before, allowing the ball to dip faster (think sharp-breaking curveballs) and giving us these crazy winners we see from the back of the court. I'd like to think the game back then required much more "craft" and "wit", while the game nowadays is much more physical has a lot more "ball bashing". Not that it's a bad thing, as we've seen some ridiculous rallies over the years.
Damn...Monfils pulled it out huh? I was watching the 2nd and 3rd set before I went to bed but I thought he was either going to retire after the 3rd set or he was playing possum about his ankle. He seriously loafed then, after he hurt it. He was chasing down nothing
It wasn't pretty, but I was happy for Laura... Needs to step it up. And some fans. It was very hot today... 40C.
^ Yeah he straight setted Davy. I didn't feel like staying up either. Fed has a tough rough ahead... Tomic then most likely Raonic... I'm sure he'll make it to the semi's like usual though.
Whated Stepanek do? Venus/Maria time...got a feeling Maria works her then Serena gets revenge Id still rather be watching Wawa/Querry though
Sharapova been digging Venus a grave for the past 45min and Venus isn't even trying to climb out... Or rather Sharapova won't let her.
Baggy~Daveed... we're gonna be here for a while... Too bad about Venus' slow start, having only just started to pick it up towards the end of the match. Maria looked too sharp. Just gotta be impressed with Kimiko's dedication. I can still remember watching her Wimbledon semi vs. Steffi in '96! And just one of the wacky moments during the match.
Man...That Venus/Maria match was tough to watch. Only thing to be encouraged about his how Venus finised the match. I'm disappointed though.
Missle Milos vs Kohly tonight should be fantastic. I expect big things from Milos this year so I'm verrry excited for this match
I was ever a Serena fan, but that's nothing new. Quell ~ Yes... expecting a break-out year for Milos... with Tomic as well (though I still don't like the guy). Interestingly, New Balance has made a big move into tennis by signing Milos. Not bad IMO.
Why do they always play "Shine bright like a diamond" whenever Serena comes out? Is that her theme music or something? Since when was tennis like WWF
