@ "a bit". You must be related to this bum to defend him like that. Robert Horry hit a ton of big shots in playoffs, many more and more important ones than Lewis. Was he worth 110+ mil? And speaking of that, where was this playoff hero Rashard Lewis in the finals last year? Apart from one, maybe two games, he was a complete non-factor and completely invisible. In fact, he was so invisible that people forgot he was even there and criticize him. After that one game people were criticizing Hedo for missing some free-throws even though he had a good game overall, as if he was the one signed for a contract worth more than a tenth of a billion of dollars.. But Rashard who had 6 points and shot 2-10 got a free pass and noone was mentioning him.

Dude is averaging 14.1 POINTS. Is that anywhere near what a max player should be averaging? And it's not like he is injured or anything. He is a complete waste of money. And what I don't get is why sign a player at the age of 27 who has already shown the best he can do (22 points and 7 rebounds) to a max contract?

Because he was the cream of the crop that FA class, and plus it's not needed for him to score as much points or take on a scorer's mentality.  He fits the Orlando scheme yes, did they overpay yes, but did they get to Finals with him in the lineup yes, was he nonexistent at times yes.  But he did his fair share of clutch shots throughout the playoffs.  Everyone overpays but you always seem to just hate on Shard, why don't you ever mention Allan Houston's contract see how that lived up, or Juwan Howard's?  Did Shard did something to you personally cause you attack him for his contract.  *Kanye shrugs*

Are you listening to yourself? You're defending a signing which only the VERY elite of the league deserve by saying that he hit a couple of big shots. So the ##%% what??? People whose contract are worth 5 times less than Rashard's have hit some big shots. The guy is supposed to deliver every time he steps on the court, but I'm not even sure if he's a top 75 player in the league. "Always seem to hate on Shard"?
laugh.gif
What the hell are you talking about? I think this is the second or third time I've ever mentioned the guy during the years I've been on this forum. I am positive that the last time I mentioned him was during the last year's finals to point out how invisible he was on the court, which wasn't hate, but just pointing out a fact considering the money he was signed for. And Juwan Howard and Allan Houston (who unlike Rashard got injured) are always mentioned as horrible signings, while Rashard constantly gets a free pass.

And your "he got them to the Finals" argument is so ridiculous. That's like if prior to the 08-09 season the Lakers signed Derek Fisher to a 100+ mil contract and you defended that signing by saying "Well, they won the championship with him and he hit some big shots". And at least Fisher won, this guy went invisible for most of the finals, when he should've dominated and won Finals MVP for the money he was signed for.

Vernon Wells is off to a good start
Ya but..."off to a good start" after one week of games does not = playing anywhere near close to that contract.

To refresh:

All-Star center fielder Vernon Wells agreed Friday night to a seven-year, $126 million contract extension with the Toronto Blue Jays.

Wells' pact, the sixth-largest in baseball history, would give him a $25.5 million signing bonus, no-trade clause and guarantee him the right to opt out of his contract after four years. In addition, he could earn bonuses of $250,000 for MVP, $200,000 for World Series MVP, $150,000 for league championship series MVP and $100,000 for receiving the most votes in his league in All-Star game balloting.

Stats since the day he signed that before this year:

2007 - 149 G, 85 R, 36 2B, 16 HR, 80 RBI, .245 AVG, .304 OBP, .402 SLG
2008 - 108 G, 63 R, 22 2B, 20 HR, 78 RBI, .300 AVG, .343 OBP, .496 SLG
2009 - 158 G, 84 R, 37 2B, 15 HR, 66 RBI, .260 AVG, .311 OBP, .400 SLG

Money still owed to him:

2010 - $21 million
2011 - $23 million
2012 - $21 million
2013 - $21 million
2014 - $21 million

I like Vernon actually and he's also had nagging injuries, and ya perhaps he might do something this year. But the Jays were on crack (we even said it back then) for giving him that kind of extension for that kind of money and bonuses and clauses. It's absurd. It's (god forbid) supposed to be for the superstars

We had an idiot (J.P Riccardi) running the jays at that time so you can blame him. It boggles my mind that he last 8 years with the Jays. I remember when he first came to the Jays he got rid of Orlando Hudson
pimp.gif
because he called him a " pimp".
Anyways, that Vernon deal is absolutely horrible, we have no way of moving him. Hopefully he can contribute and atleast provide some value or its gonna be a long 4 years. But it ain't like the jays are gonna win anything anytime soon...

Sad to say he  might be the single reason for our misfortune this past decade..think about it, without that injury we would have never had lenny, larry, isia or marbury..
