TikTok is a shell company that collects data for the Chinese Communist Party

What about Zoom? The feds use Zoom as their main conferencing app now lol
I use zoom for work never with camera and only on my work computer for work things

And my work laptop has always had the camera covered completely

US based public company vs Chinese CCP not exactly the same category

I don't really get what personal data they're stealing... I'm more worried that these apps are there to advance their facial recognition software

as much as i gather, it isn't so much that china got vids of you dancing on tik tok its more so of what the app does outside of it's popular function. background data collection and transmission, monitoring what you do on your phone without you knowing.

effectively data farming is what a lot of these tech companies want because it'll be used as information to target you for more $$ (selling you something, w.e) but at the same time depending on what is being taken, it can have a negative impact. maybe it can be used in the identity black market, or this information can be bought to blackmail you...maybe your financial information can get stolen..

i'm really spitballing here, the avg person is ok esp if you don't use tik tok, but other companies data mine you for other reasons as well. what [trump]CHYNA[/trump] intends to do with that data is beyond me, but i can make a reasonable assumption it ain't good lol. I'm going based on that talk about the app monitoring your keystrokes, search history, images posted (or taken?)....i mean that **** can essentially be used to build a profile of you down to your idk..potential credit score or porn preferences...

that's wild. especially since we are living in an age where hacking is the wave, and data breaches are more common.

frankly i don't use tiktok because that crap ends up on reddit or Instagram anyways, and i just don't have the energy to participate in 5 diff social media apps. not like i would have different groups of friends for different apps tf lol

Monitoring phone activity would have to be something the company that owned Musical.ly already had embedded in the code... Like a function call then never destroys itself.. It really goes back to the same issue with Instagram and Facebook. Your photos and videos being used for facial recognition and several other tracking capabilities

EDIT

I didn’t realize most of what I came to say was already posted on the first page

Does this make any difference knowing most of our phones are made in China?

After they started paying creators none of this is going to matter. It’s another Instagram, an app to data mine physiological features.. imagine feeding your AI thousands of videos with different facial gestures.. or giving it a data warehouse of said videos to cross reference against everyday social interactions

F the CCP but I feel like the fear is fueled by xenophobia because its from China.

Its only ok if our government and American tech companies mine our data but not a foreign company and especially not China because they're the "enemy"

I believe there should be stricter laws but it should start from our government and tech companies first then apply the same energy to the CCP.
