First Details Revealed For New 'Jurassic World' Ride At Universal Studios Hollywood

The state-of-the-art attraction, which will open this summer, will debut an original storyline that takes place within the theme park as depicted in Jurassic World. It will feature additional new dinosaurs from the film, lush scenic design, and ground-breaking technology that has yet to be experienced within a theme park.

The aesthetics of Jurassic World: The Ride will be dramatically enhanced, welcoming guests to a reimagined space reflective of the Jurassic World films. A fresh, new entry statement, stonework landscaping and a contemporary redesign of the iconic pillars illuminated with billowing flames will support a prominent Jurassic World marquee logo.

For those of you who don’t already know, here’s what goes down. Once aboard specially designed rafts, guests will navigate the lush environs of dense vegetation, traversing new areas besieged with towering dinosaurs meandering just an arm’s length away from visitors.

Encounters with dinosaurs will quickly take a turn for the intense as predatory Velociraptors and Dilophosaurus begin to wreak havoc, turning guests from spectators to prey. When the Tyrannosaurus rex begins to battle one of the attraction’s new behemoth dinosaurs, the rafts will spill down a treacherous 84-foot waterfall as the sole means of escape.

The attraction replaces Jurassic Park: The Ride which closed in September 2018.

Universal Orlando Announces a New Theme Park, Epic Universe

Universal Orlando Resort sent the Internet into a frenzy last week with a single cryptic tweet hinting at the announcement of a fourth theme park.

“This is kind of a big deal,” the account captioned an intergalactic-themed promo photo with the words “something epic is coming” printed in bold white letters.

On Thursday, the company unveiled a few details of the new park, called Epic Universe, in a press conference and a series of tweets. It will join Universal Studios (the original park), Islands of Adventure, and Volcano Bay Water Theme Park in the resort’s portfolio.

More information about Epic Universe will be revealed over time, according to Universal, but here’s everything we know so far.

It’s a game-changer, according to Universal

Tom Williams, chairman and chief executive officer for Universal Parks & Resorts, has yet to reveal the opening date of the new park but promises Epic Universe will be “historic.”

“It will build on everything we have done and become the most immersive and innovative theme park we have ever created,” Williams said in a statement. “It is an investment in our business, our industry, our team members and our community.”

It’s a one-stop-shop

Located within a massive 750-acre site, Epic Universe will include additional hotels, shops, restaurants, an entertainment center and, of course, the theme park. Right now, the Universal CityWalk is the resort’s primary dining and shopping hub.

It’s close to your favorite existing attractions

A map posted to Twitter shows that Universal’s fourth park is southeast of existing attractions like Universal Studios, the Hard Rock Hotel and Island of Adventure. According to a press release, it’s just a few miles away from the existing Universal resort in Southwest Orange County (south of Sand Lake Road and east of Universal Boulevard).

Universal is milking the hype

… keeping fans on their toes! Just hours after Thursday’s announcement, the park joked on Twitter: “You: TELL US WHEN #EPICUNIVERSE IS GOING TO OPEN?!?!?!?! Us: New park, who dis?”

One impatient user replied, “Stop playing games with us and GIVE US MORE DETAILS.” While another wrote “Just tell us something about it outside of it being a thing. Please? Pretty please?”

Guests will join the original cast of the films – Chris Pratt as Owen Grady, Bryce Dallas Howard as Claire Dearing and BD Wong as Dr. Henry Wu – as Jurassic World unveils the next evolution of its “carnivore expansion”: the VelociCoaster, where riders embark on a high-speed chase and feel the rush of the hunt while racing alongside a nimble Velociraptor pack.

The Jurassic World VelociCoaster will raise the bar in extreme roller coaster design and become the ultimate experience for coaster enthusiasts and thrill-seekers. Spanning more than 4,700 feet of track and reaching heights of up to 155 feet, the coaster’s signature maneuvers will have guests twisting and soaring above land, barrel rolling just inches above water, speeding through near-misses and launches within the paddock, and more…with just a lap restraint holding them in place.
