WAKANDA FOREVER VOL. HARRIET TUBMAN EDITION

exactly what they wanted, fake outrage in the social media era we live in. Just to get people to talk about their actions, Good or bad, but at least you now know about a black bank that exist in the world of financial services.

Why don’t we celebrate Assata Shakur more? Mutulu Geronimo Pratt? Huey P Newton? Bobby Seales? Fidel Castro? Malcolm X?

RBG!

They always wanna talk about slaves to us as if that’s where we started. Talk about Nat Turner, Crispus Attucks first to die for America.

Henrietta Lacks is probably the one that should be celebrated most, why don’t they teach us about her??

FOH man! I’m sick of this bs.

I dont think any of the folks you mentioned would be mad that they arent celebrated by the masses.

idk man, Crispus Attucks might want a few more words with Americans about supporting defenders of liberty.

...and ya know what, I slept on this matter and I have decided I do not like it, nosir.

sure it's...cute...but should Harriet Tubman really be turned into a fun pop culture thingy?

was the Underground Railroad cute?

I always wonder if the people themselves would appreciate their depictions.

Celebrated by the masses? Why would the masses celebrate them? This is for melanated people in America to celebrate. Not just Harriet Tubman and MLK. Why do the oppressors decide who we celebrate and are taught about in their education system? IF a black bank wants to Continue this BS of only speaking on Harriet Tubman and MLK then they’re just as bad as the oppressors. I’m sure they want their legacy to live on and they want us to learn and attempt to finish what they started. But they won’t tell us that because they fear us gaining that knowledge and rising up. How many black leaders with the right solutions got killed? Nearly every one of them. It’s not just a coincidence. Why wouldn’t they want us to study what they were teaching and preaching? Everything Malcolm spoke about on the Ballot or the Bullet still applies to this day. So they want own legacy to die out? Ok!

I agree 100%. Without question, It’s odd that things have gotten to a point where some Black people are making light of one of our historical figures; especially one who lived through/fought against the atrocities of slavery.

In this instance, I look at it through the lens of American capitalism (the reality being that a majority of us live under this system so it’s futile to argue it), so I can recognize that this is a poor marketing ploy to draw attention to their bank.

Either they’ll double down, or they’ll pull the cards and issue an apology within the next 10 days. Either way, people were talking about One United Bank.

"Celebrated by the masses? Why would the masses celebrate them?"

Exactly my point.

"This is for melanated people in America to celebrate."

Nah Fam - Melanin dont mean much...everyone who is your color is not your kind.

Its the state of mind that matters.

Even when the folks mentioned were alive, some of their greatest opponents were "melinated". Ex. Both Newton and X were killed by melanated people. Attucks was trippin.

Though I am not myself a member of the Nation of the Gods and the Earths, I personally subscribe to the 5 Percent Nation's (Nation of the Gods and the Earths) world view / position....

The term "Five Percenter" is taken directly from the "Five Percent" who are described in "Lost-Found Muslim Lesson No. 2" of the Nation of Islam. The lesson groups the people of the world into three categories. Eighty-five percent of the world's population are described as "uncivilized people; poison animal eaters; slaves from mental death and power, people who do not know the Living God or their origin in this world, and they worship that they know not what. . . [They] are easily led in the wrong direction, but hard to lead into the right direction." Ten percent of the world's population are described as "The rich; the slave-makers of the poor; who teach the poor lies --- to believe that the Almighty, True and Living God is a spook and cannot be seen by the physical eye. Otherwise known as: The Blood-Suckers of the Poor." Five Percent of the world's population are described as "the poor, righteous Teachers, who do not believe in the teachings of the 10%, and are all-wise; and know who the Living God is; and Teach that the Living God is the Sun of man, the supreme being, the (Black man) of Asia; and Teach Freedom, Justice and Equality to all the human family of the planet Earth."

Thusly - the masses I speak of are the ones not in the 5 percent of folks who seek "Freedom, Justice and Equality to all the human family of the planet Earth".

Anyway - the bank has GREAT rates if youre looking for a mortgage.

I dont think Tubman would GAF about the card....no more than Jesus cares about our money saying "In God we Trust"...

Attucks wouldnt GAF either...he was fighting for his job, not the country.

"As British control over the colonies tightened, tensions escalated between the colonists and British soldiers. Attucks was one of those directly affected by the worsening situation. Seamen like Attucks constantly lived with the threat they could be forced into the British navy, while back on land, British soldiers regularly took part-time work away from colonists.

On March 2, 1770, a fight erupted between a group of Boston rope makers and three British soldiers. The conflict was ratcheted up three nights later when a British soldier looking for work reportedly entered a Boston pub, only to be greeted by furious sailors, one of whom was Attucks."

Black folks are supposed to be satisfied with symbols of black excellence instead of black folks systematically being treated fairly.

Just like they skipped over thousands of talented American black actresses to actually play Harriet Tubman and created a black male villain with a porn star name ( Bigger Long) , there is a clear understanding that it is okay to degrade and mock any type of black legacy.

There is a such thing as elite black folks being out of touch with the culture as well.

Fidel Castro should always be mentioned when it comes to black history. Our biggest Ally and had our back whenever we needed it.
would che guevara be a candidate for this title as well?
A symbol or figure is easier to personalize and replicate when it looks like you. The reason these men aren't mentioned or taught is simply because they’re black. This is why Obama was/is so important, especially for the kids. The first president my sister will remember remembering is a black man, and that is a very important to the psyche because the idea of black ppl being in positions of power will be more than a mere fantasy to her.

Technology is not gonna let ppl RIP properly. Very black mirror type vibes.

Prince spoke on this ahead of his time, said he never wanted to be reproduced as a hologram or anything.

and they still almost did it!

instead they had Justin Timberlake pretend to be Prince while a giant image of him loomed, which I'm almost sure is worse.

This makes me realize that this is gonna slow down new ideas if major corporations are able to keep releasing old intellectual property they own on whatever the new platform variety of the day is. Literally ghost trapped in machines.
