i have noticed an influx of "racist" comments/threads as of late. its either dudes are lowkey closet "racist", just straight ignorant, trying to get a rise/lulz out of everybody, or a combo of all 3

Well, it's a weird thing on NT that the ones who most often voice their opinions against racism and inequality tend to be the most racially biased and inflammatory of all. The instigation caused by these few is sometimes so outrageous that it drives even the most normal & fair-minded people to take sides.
