I've noticed as the times past that NYC isn't the same as it used to be , I notice alot of generification , especially in my neighborhood . Also do you think the youth of NYC today could have survived in NYC during those time periods ?

Welcome to NT
Yes NYC is very different now
Paging Ninjahood

Yes NYC was a dump.

Still is depending on who you're asking :rolleyes

Watch how many NTers come in here and take pride in how grimy their hood used to be, as if that's something to boast about

A.No way the youth of today could have survived anytime before now, they would all end up bullied , crying, living at their moms spot, working some dead end job, crying everynight with pantry full of pills.

B. The "broken window" policy installed by Bloomberg thoroughly removed the backbone of that city.

still grimey and nasty. horrible city.

and growing up in a grimey neighborhood is nothing to be proud of.

But There is not denying that back then , you had to be tough & couldn't let anyone take advantage of you , I have so much stories growing up in NYC during my middle/high school years , I could write a novel lml

Seems like these threads get made on the regular.

No these kids growing up now would have had it harder then. There would be no camping out overnight at stores and you were more likely to get tested for your gear. Most recent example I could think of is how the city is transforming Downtown Brooklyn into a shopping area that appeals to white people. For those that know, Fulton was no joke up until a few years ago. Used to see plenty of beatdowns and police like militarization of the strip.

Is it something to be proud of? No, but it gave the city an edge that it doesn't have anymore and with the gentrification that's going on thanks to Bloomberg, the city is losing its culture and what made NYC NYC.

If that camping out trend took place in the 90's , i doubt it would last an hour without something happening

& I agree NYC used to have culture , each borough had it's own style & diiversity , now it's starting to fade though
