Same mash bill as Blantons and to me, tastes similar. Overall, great pour!

Introduced a friend to whisky today with a small tasting:
JW Platinum Label
Glenlivet 12
Nikka from the Barrel
Glengoyne 21
Balvenie week of peat 14 years
Laphroaig 10

His least favorite was the Nikka from the Barrel and his favorite was the Balvenie week of peat. My least favorite was the Glengoyne 21 and my favorite the Laphroaig 10. Balvenie a close second.

Never had the Laphroaig before and expected the worst based on the flavor descriptions I've read (medicinal, band-aids) but instead got a nicely balanced peaty, vegetal and slightly sweet whisky.

Might do a tasting again soon, definitely a lot of fun.

Got me wanting to try that Week Of Peat now......

The acquired the whole line but I grabbed the BiB

Yeah its interesting why BT would want it. I thought I read they have a bunch of stock and are even expanding the Weller line, and I saw some labels a while ago that that are gonna expand the Benchmark line. I have heard the BiB is a great bargain. I need to start asking a couple liquor stores if they can order something like that in to store.

Picked this one up today. Single cask 32 year old Teaninich, distilled in my birth year and bottled in my son's birth year. The idea is that one day we will open this together.

Was thinking on storing this with some extra teflon tape (plumber's tape) around the top, unless someone has a better idea?

any sake drinkers?

can anyone suggest a cold sake?
Kiku-Masamune Junmai Taru sake. It's a quality, authentic Japanese sake that is aged in cedar barrels. Don't have much to compare it to because it was my first experience with cold sake.
It was recommended to me by the owner of a good Japanese restaurant that was really into Sake if that makes any difference.

Are cocktails allowed in here gents?

If you want the OG bond drink you ought to mix in a tiny bit of good tonic mix and a couple of lemon peels. The Kino Lillet in Casino Royale had quinine and lemon oil in it.

Good sake is every bit as good as good wine. Ideally, you serve it at about 52 degrees, cooler than a red but warmer than a white.

That's so awesome.

Buy some parafilm instead of plumbers tape. A bit more expensive, but it's what labs use to seal vials for long-term viability. Seal it and keep it somewhere like your closet with a steady temp and no direct sunlight.

Does it have a cork stopper? If it does, turn it on its side for a couple hours like once or twice per year to keep the cork wet. Make sure it isn't stored permanently on its side though. The alcohol %age is too high and will eat away at the cork and end up tasting like it.

Drinking with some cheap crap tonight at my GF brothers place lol. I do like it, though. He has fallen in love with WT101.

You guys/gals better be having a good weekend dammit.
Had a bros night last night while the girls were together. Ended up crushing a handle of EW BiB (I really don't know that it gets much better than this at 1.75L for $23) between the 4 of us after going out for a few drinks. Safe to say I wasn't feeling it this morning, but I used this little ice roller thing on my face that my fiance bought and I felt like a new man 5 minutes later

Thanks, will definitely do that. Storage temperature will be between 60 (winter) and 80 (summer) degrees.

all I been drinking is captain and Coke, vanilla crown, Henny white and Grand marnier... so decided to switch it up and try these combinations...going to make either incredible hulk henny and hypnotiq or thug passion Henny and alize...going to try this weekend... never had this in college but always wanted to try it lol...I always usually just drink Henny straight so this will be different...

Wow I didn't even know Hypnotiq still existed. Haven't seen it in a while, this used to be the bomb back in the day.
I used to go through bottles of this stuff every month

EH Taylor 18 Yr Marriage has been hitting the Atlanta area over the past week. I've done some hunting but have been striking out. There's three stores I know of that got their hands on it. The first is doing a raffle that includes buying $100 bottle of **** Barrel Bourbon. The second sold theirs last night for $1,000. The third is holding it for a preferred customer.

$1000 for a bottle is crazy ... Have to think it will be a tremendous pour because BT does a great job not being overly Oaked at those years... Haven’t heard of any in our area and don’t expect to see it... Will be checking my normal spots... Grabbing the Willetts and Blade and Bow tomorrow... Can’t wait for the WFE Rye

I'm a Scotch guy myself but I just can't see why you would pay $1000 for an 18 year old bourbon. For that money I'd rather get a 30 year old single malt and still have $200-400 left
I know bourbon ages differently but usually not in a good way (the oaky bitterness you are referring to). But again, I'm not that much of a bourbon guy. To me the younger bourbons often taste better than the older ones.
