What do the Memphis Grizzlies need, to become a playoff team

Word, the Grizzlies' offense was terrible.

Iavaroni was supposed to make them run and gun ala the Suns, but they always ended up in the 80s

. A lot of it had to do with there being no offensive philosophy besides Juice and Rudyhavingthe ball in their hands to score, which isn't good for the rest of the team as there is no motion and just watching those two try to score onisolations.

Nah, every body thinks this but Ivaroni was always a defensive specialist and had little to do with the suns offense.

After watching over 60 grizzlies games this season (I know, smh at me) they have to do a couple things:

One, they need a better bench. Virtually nothing comes from that bench. Miles, Darko, Jaric, buckner, ross, I mean, there is absolutely no scoring punch comingfrom the bench. This is something they have to sure up or they wont go anywhere.

Two, the grizzlies have to make a decision on who they are going to roll with either mayo or gay, and they have to make the right decision on that, which ismayo. They are a much better team with mayo as the primary scoring option than gay. As of right now, people are high on gay so maybe through a trade, theycould possibly get some good pieces. Juice is the guy in memphis and unless he's at at least 23 per next year, they won't improve much.

Three, Mike Conley. If he's going to be the man at the point for this squad, they got to have a little more consistency from him.

Four, that power foward position. Authur is nothing more than a back up, and so is warrick imo they can do better than that at the four.

Hmmm my mistake then.

I've also been thinking that the Grizzlies should trade Rudy. He doesn't mesh well with Juice, his clique is gone (him, Hak is a FA and Lowry is nowin Houston) and is going to ask for probably a (near) max extension this summer. I think it may be best to package him and Darko for a veteran SF anddepth.

As I said earlier about the PF position, either hope for the number one pick (Blake Griffin) or sign Paul Millsap. Pray that Carlos Boozer doesn't optout of his contract, thus putting the Jazz in a bind. Front load his offer like the Hawks did for Joe Johnson if you have to.

I don't see no reason in trading Rudy just yet unless he really hurts the team chemistry. There haven't been any reports about him and OJ notgetting along and as far as I know they get along pretty well. Sometime it takes a player a while to "get it" and I think Rudy has had to put up witha lot since he's became a Grizzlie. Fratello, Barone, Iavaroni and now Hollins. He's been through 4 coaching changes, back-to-back 22-win seasons and a24-win season. He went from playing 2nd option to Pau to being the man when Pau was traded to now trying to play beside OJ. I just think its going to take sometime for him to adjust and become motivated. I honestly think it would be a mistake to get rid of Rudy this early in his career and he's only 23 years old.If Memphis doesn't get a top 2 or 3 pick, I see them packaging the pick with Darko to add some depth on the bench.

I'm pretty sure Memphis will be rolling with OJ as their main guy next season and Rudy being able to handle it. If he can't handle it and makes itpublic, then trade him. Free agent PF's I would like for Memphis to look out for would be Boozer (mainly because of his veteran leadership, post scoringand rebounding ability), Odom, Varejao or Millsap. All these players have experience and have played on good teams with great players. That's somethingthey need to bring to Memphis. Any of these players would fit well beside Marc Gasol who I believe will be averaging close to a double double, if not one nextseason. They MUST fix the bench, if they the bench play sucks then we might as well count it as another 20 something win season.

^a.i. would NOT fit in there. they need to address their attention to the fowards, not the guards.
conley+mayo works nicely. they need to package gay+the whole bench for something.
gasol+conley+mayo are the only keepers imo.
someone show us the salary cap for the grizz? i'll be interested in seeing how their salary cap looks like.

Looking at Hoopshype's salary listings, the Grizzlies have $34M for 09-10. Depending on what they do with Hak and the cap, they could have between $18-25Mto spend this summer.

Yeah Darko was serviceable. He's not as bad as some people make him out to be. He gets his fair share of rebounds and blocks and has a decent hook shot.

men i be sleeping on oj mayo i swear men this #!!$% played high school varsity basketball when he was just in the 7th grade

I'd watch...

I wouldn't mind packaging a pick and Darko's expiring to get Chris Bosh.

Hollins did a pretty good coaching during part of the season, that's why they giving he a full training camp to see how he does. He's thereason Conley is finally starting to play like the no.4 pick.

Darko was pretty solid off the bench, but he's got 7.5mil in expiring coming off the books during the 2010 off-season making him more expendable.

The most important thing from what I've seen imo, and I said this in my earlier post, is who is their guy? Rudy would be a terrific 2nd option. I justdon't or ever have seen him as a go to type of player, even at uconn.

It will be interesting to see what the grizzlies look like at the start of next season.

They offered him the job at the end of the season I think. He turned it down though

. They have to get a decent coach before they do anything. I think MarkJackson has the potential to be a good coach.

how would the old starting 5 of:

Bibby
Dickerson
Abdur-Rahim
Othella Harrington
Bryant Reeves

stack up against the current one?
