is it: dress shirt, tie, slacks, dress shoes

or the above without the tie? or is it going all out with a suit?

dress professionally is such a vague term its hard to say.

in my opinion you cant go wrong with a suit but thats just me. what is the occassion?

the dress code at my office is business casual and consists of collared shirts, slacks, dress shoes (no polos, no denim, khakis are borderline, havent seenanyone try to bust out the short sleeved collar shirt ehtier). but then again I work in a fairly casual office. Business casual at other joints can be tie oreven suit.

Yeah, and like you say depending on the environment it could include a jacket too.

Definitely a tie though IMO - business casual is when you lose the tie.

"Dress Professionally" is a term that can be very vague...if you aren't sure then wear a suit....if you see that things are kinda lax, then takeoff the tie and lose the jacket....sometimes if you don't know, it's better to be over-dressed than under-dressed

5x white tee..girbard jeans..white on white af1s...
Thats Casual............

Its More like 5x TALL tee...Girbaud jeans...Clear AF1's that weren't released by nike!

i'm going to be shadowing a physician, and I was told to dress professionally. I think shirt, tie, slacks is what I'll go with. thanks for the help

Far as I understand it's: button down, slacks, dress shoes, tie, and possibly blazer/jacket is pretty much the baseline for professional dress. You couldwear a suit but I don't think thats really necessary to technically qualify as professional dress... Really depends on the place, some places define itquite differently than others...

Edit: Yeah, I would think that button down, slacks, dress shoes, and tie would be fine for a physician because don't they wear white like "doctorcoats" with that... Thats how I always seem them dressed...

Depends on the enviroment....

Most of the places I've been, when they request professional or business attire it means a suit, but you might slide by with a shirt, tie and slacks at theMINIMAL.

If you're interviewing for a job that requires a degree or for a good position, go with a suit. If its for a professional type dinner, you might be able toslide by with a dress shirt and tie. Again it depends on the situation.

For this situation, a suit would be OD. All you need is a shirt, tie, and khakis or black dress pants.

Wear what he wears. If he's in a shirt, tie and slacks, which he will most likely be wearing then wear it.

i'd say slacks, dress shirt and tie. I'd make the jacket optional unless you are going to be in a meeting. Cargo khakis are a no-no for thisopportunity. But make sure your shirt and pants are freshly pressed. Also make sure that your shoes are presentable. We as sneakerheads can take pristine careof our sneakers but forget to put the same care into our dress shoes. When I was younger, that was the case. Now my dress shoes (although seldom worn) are injust as pristine condition as my sneakers.

haha funny you should ask that. one of my profs told us to dress professionally for a presentation, so my friend comes in wearing a pinstriped suit

I've done a couple presentations where the professors defined dressing professionally as wearing a business suit, for both girls & guys.

I hate when ghetto spots be saying "dress professionally" and you go in and they all look at you like your insane.

trust me please...whenever you are "working" in a hospital as you will be shadowing a physician you should wear a tie. unless you are going to bewearing scrubs you should wear a tie when working in the hospital. even if you are going to be in scrubs they will provide them for you and you should stillcome in for the day dressed in a shirt and tie

Where what the physician would wear, but do it better.
