Ok hear this out first. Abortions are legal for a lot of reasons, one of the most common arguments being that a woman has the right to do whatever she wantswith her body and nobody can tell her otherwise.

According to that logic, certain types of drugs that have little effect on others (ex marijuana) should be legalized since, well, nobody has a right to tellyou what you can do with your body.

I know that there are a lot of other reasons why abortion is legal, but the phrase "pro-choice" implies the right to choose what you do with yourbody (more specifically the baby)

Anybody else got any thoughts on this?

I agree with you. I am pro choice on abortion and I am pro choice on a lot of other things, including drug use.

Bans on drug use are the same as bans on abortion, attempts to force people into conforming to a lifestyle that the society deemed ideal at the time that lawwas made. I suppose the difference is that abortion legalization has had a much more disciplined and focused movement behind it and drug legalization is onlybeginning to get a cohesive and disciplined voice.

You're not killing a person when you have an abortion.

but weed FTW though.

women's reproductive rights FTW too.

ony marijuana is getting a cohesive & disciplined voice... most people have the sense to realize that things likt extascy/heroin/crystalmeth/cocaine/crack cocaine should be illegal

When you come up with a resolution to drug trade, cartels, overdoses etc. then let us know.

Because most women that opt for abortion are those who would be single or crackhead mothers who are unable to raise a child which, in essence, would mostlikely add to the drug problem.

Yep. There are different stages that decide when it's actually a 'person' or not. Abortion is fine before the 2nd stage, after the3rd or 4th month I believe.

You are right that marijuana currently is making the most progress in getting its self legalized or decriminalized.

You are wrong to equate sense with keeping everything else illegal. The negative effects of keeping prohibition alive are far worse than the negative effectsassociated with taking any of those drugs you named. The war on drugs and the black market it creates causes needless numbers of death, incarceration andpoverty all across this country and especially in America's poorest communities. On top of that, it is hard to say that you are protecting the drug userhimself by fining him, throwing him in a government run dungeon and seizing his property. Is preventing someone from getting high worth all of the cost inblood and treasure and liberty associated with waging this costly, bloody and pointless "war on drugs"?

the banning of drugs started in canada when opium was huge in the west coast by chinese immigrants. it lured many white girls and in exchange for sex, theywould receive opium and this caused a disruption in communities. so theres a big part as to how it started to become illegal, it was originally to stop chinesemen from reproducing with white women. Laws 1000 ftw

while a logical argument, people are foolish if they think legalizing drugs will eliminate the black market or the crime associated with it.

as long as competition exists there'll be a black market.

By definition, a black market is one that operates outside of the law. The only way a black market can exist after legalization is if there were some verylarge tax on narcotics that would drive the price far above what could be had on the black market.

As long as drugs were legal to sell, even if heavily regulated, it is unlikely that there would be much violence on the part of drug sellers. Just like Casinoowners and liquor store owners do not usually shoot it out with competitors, nor would the people who would be selling narcotics in their corner stores.

I understand rape victims and if the mother would be in danger from birthing the child as reasons to allow abortion. I do believe that it should be regulatedsomehow, so that every Tom and Jane don't decide 3 months in that "Oh I lost my job and can't support a kid, ABORT"

A child is a life long investment. Why would anyone want to bring a child into a world that they aren't prepared to provide?

Also, as a side, a kid that a parent can't afford costs the taxpayer a crap load of cash. It's cheaper to offer a up front one time abortion optionthan pay to raise a child who wasn't wanted in the first place.

so you guys wouldnt mind driving with these people on pcp all around you, driving with people around you that are drunk is bad enough... lets be serious now...no problem with legalizing green, but drugs like x and pcp....

Abortions are a touchy subject. I don't agree with them on the surface cause of people trying to cover their mistakes. When it involves rape, it really istouchy

. But as for people covering for their mistakes, I totallydisagree. Take responsibility like you did when engaging in the act.
