Realtalk, in about 5-10 years... Google will be everywhere in society..

Google Fiber:

Google is planning to launch an experiment that we hope will makeInternet access better and faster for everyone. We plan to testultra-high speed broadband networks in one or more trial locationsacross the country. Our networks will deliver Internet speeds more than 100times faster than what most Americans have access to today, over 1 gigabit persecond, fiber-to-the-home connections. We'll offerservice at a competitive price to at least 50,000 and potentially upto 500,000 people.
From now until March 26th, we're asking interested municipalitiesto provide us with information about their communities through aRequest for information (RFI), which we'll use to determine where tobuild our network.
Project Overview

What is Google doing and what does it seek to achieve?
Imagine sitting in a rural health clinic, streamingthree-dimensional medical imaging over the web, and discussing a uniquecondition with a specialist in New York. Or downloading ahigh-definition, full-length feature film in less than fiveminutes. Or collaborating with classmates around the world whilewatching live 3D video of a university lecture. Universal, ultrahigh-speed Internet access will make all this, and morepossible. We've urged the FCC to look at new, and creative ways to get there in itsNational Broadband Plan – and now we'reannouncing an experiment of our own.

Google is planning to build, and test ultra-high speed broadbandnetworks in a small number of trial locations across the country. We'lldeliver Internet speeds more than 100 times faster than what mostAmericans have access to today with 1 gigabit per second,fiber-to-the-home connections. We'll offer service at a competitiveprice to at least 50,000, and potentially up to 500,000 people.

As a first step, we're putting out a Request for Information (RFI)to help identify interested communities. We welcome responses fromlocal government, as well as members of the public.

Our goal is to experiment with new ways to help make Internetaccess better, and faster for everyone. Here are some specific thingsthat we have in mind:

I'm just throwing it out there, but early April Fools??

Google are known for going in heavy on 1st April, and this could be this years.....

I've heard about this a couple of months ago. I don't think Queens, New York will get this because there are way too many apartment building and almost no open space to set this up. But we will see.

I'm not doing anything illegal on the internet, so I'm not worried.

Apparently there was around 1,000 cities vying for the bid. It was like on some Olympic selection committee type thing. Kansas City was selected :frown:
I don't think we even have Verizon Fios in Atlanta yet... smh

Sheesh, I have 1GB fiber at work and it is amazing. I can only imagine having this type of speed at home.
