In the last thread someone said something about there only being 10 copies in circulation? Dunno if thats true or not...but they said it was pretty much the holy grail of video game collectors...that people even pay grands for the instruction manual alone or the box to it.

From what I have heard that is true. There are only 10 North American versions, those are the rare ones, the other ones are PAL versions, which aren't nearly as rare I guess.

I wonder if the person buying it will actually play it or let it sit to gain more value. The game better be one of the best ever for that much.

why was it recalled? Im not too interested to actually search but interested enough to ask

really though, who has 42k to spend on an old *@$ game that they're never gonna play? its not like its an investment that's gonna gain interest...

Got this from wikipedia.

The North American, or NTSC, version of Stadium Events is universally accepted as the rarest licensed NES game available for purchase in North America.[sup]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stadium_Events#cite_note-1[/sup][sup]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stadium_Events#cite_note-2[/sup][sup]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stadium_Events#cite_note-3[/sup][sup]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stadium_Events#cite_note-4[/sup]It was recently named #6 on a list of 20 "Holy Grails of Console Gaming"[sup]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stadium_Events#cite_note-5[/sup], a list that covered all gaming systems in all countries. The reason for its rarity and subsequent high market price[sup]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stadium_Events#cite_note-6[/sup][sup]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stadium_Events#cite_note-7[/sup][sup]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stadium_Events#cite_note-8[/sup] is due to its limited production and sales.[sup]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stadium_Events#cite_note-racketboy.com-9[/sup]At the time of its launch during the holiday season of 1987, Stadium Events was only available in limited stores. In 1988, Nintendo purchased the North American rights to the FFF mat technology and re-released it as the Power Pad.
The two Family Fun Fitness-branded games that had already beenreleased, as well as Bandai's version of the running pad accessory, were pulled from shelves and presumed destroyed. Because of this oddsequence of events, only 2000 copies are believed to have beenproduced, of which it is estimated that 200 copies reached consumersbefore being recalled.[sup]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stadium_Events#cite_note-racketboy.com-9[/sup]Today, collectors who follow the online sale of rare video gamesbelieve that fewer than 20 complete copies of the game exist, few ofwhich are factory sealed.

Also found this on another Video Game forum....

Dont know how many of you are NES collectors or even know that muchabout NES history, but heres a quick rundown of the scarcest titleofficially released for the system. (Myriad was not official but is therarest title for the system)

Stadium Events was rumored to be initially released only at Woolworth'sdepartment stores in the Northern region of the US as a test market forBandai. It was released in conjunction with the Family Fun Fitness pad(Family Trainer in Japan)

The PAL European version of SE is not rare at all and can be easily confused for the US version to the untrained eye

Nintendo liked the product and they purchased the rights from Bandaiand revamped the concept into the Power Pad that you all know and love.

The Stadium Events game itsself was also transformed into World ClassTrack Meet which is the exact same game with only a new Title Screenand a new label

Bandai's test run did not see any further expansion or printings, andthe unsold stock of games and mats were recalled from Woolworth's andassumed destroyed.
This left only the few copies that had actually sold in retail to beleft in existance. For this reason the Stadium Events game is the mostcoveted released title for any NES collector.
