You actually identify the van by asking which bus route they are. "Is this the q5?".....

Yea, at the terminal the drivers yell out their route while loading up the van. Then if you’re at a spot with multiple dollar van lines they yell out what they are when they stop.

TLC does not permit dollar vans to stop when hailed, classifying them as a call-ahead shuttle service. Although it is common knowledge that dollar vans principally cover established MTA routes, this is technically unlawful, per TLC, requiring vans to submit prearranged routes that don’t correspond with existing MTA routes.

i know they don't, hence why i said their unauthorized by da city...its just not enforced uniformly.

da experience people have with em is irrelevant, da point is they're illegal and i seen TLC do sweeps and confiscate da vans & fine da drivers mad times on my routes during work.
