Why is yellow gold cheaper?
Rolex uses their own proprietary alloys for White & Rose gold.  Supposebly they stay stable in appearance over the years compared to other 18k alloys.  I think I asked if people have any actual experience with this and cared to comment but I don't remember now.

NEVER FORGET

It was explained to me that they use a more expensive process to make it white gold all the way through, much like a white gold chain, whereas something like the IF&Co full sized white Jesus seems to be rhodium plated but yellow gold centre. Maybe I'm wrong

You should just send me your white one and get a new one

i hit rey up beginning of the year on a white gold cuban and was going to send my two francos to melt. quote came back at a grand to melt and make a new chain. that seems high, but i have nothing to compare it to. so for all i know a grand is a deal. i know some of you guys have melted with ray so is that price reasonable? i was thinking if i bought maybe a 100 more grams of 14k to add to the new chain he'd cut that price down.

What karat, size and weight Cuban were you going to get in return from Rey's? Remember a grand for all the labor involved doesn't seem high to me.

if i melt both my chains its 200 grams 14k. looking to add $ and make it around 14k 30 inches 12mm 300 grams give or take.

glad that price does not seem high for the melt and labor. i know i have read a handful of people on here melting with rey so i knew someone would have a little info.

How much per gram is he paying for your chain and how much per gram is he charging you for the new chain?  Seperate the two transactions.

Your chains may or may not be melted but they absolutely will not be used to make the chain you get in return.

1 oz of 24k gold  equals 53.3 grams of 14k gold.  Buy 1 oz gold coins to add to your trade instead of trying to put together a bunch of scrap.

I hunt 1 oz and half ounce gold coins in pawn shops every weekend. Ive hit at least 1/3 of the pawn shops in this area since last year.  Pawn shops  arent paying any more than 50-60% of the scrap value on any gold....period.  There is a whole lot of whiggle room for negotiation if your buying, especially if its been sitting there for ever AND you have the cash in your hand when you make the offer.

Im averaging 1020 per ounce.  I have 7 1 oz coins so far.  I need 3 more for my half kilo.  Im not trying to hear that labor BS over a certain amount.  Ill pay for the skill, but im not going to get raped using fuzzy math.

Is all that time your spending going from shop to shop really going to be worth the money your saving?
