Wrestling Thread Nov 24-30 | Raw 11/24 - Survivor Series Fallout - Cena & Edge are Champs, Hardy?

Spoiler [+]
I see Kozlov interfering at Armageddon and then we get either a fatal 4 way or Edge vs Triple H at the Rumble with Hardy winning the Rumble

Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer reports that Travis Tomko has re-signed with WWE.

I know Travis visited a WWE Smackdown/ECW show in Atlanta after leaving TNA and spoke with John Laurinaitis then, and I understood he had visited other shows since. Travis had hoped for a regular spot in Japan, and was thinking of getting into MMA but neither happened.

TNA had initially left the door open to use him again and did once but creative had soured on using him for future dates due to issues when he was under contract.

No info on when he might start.

Obviously this will fuel speculation he will join Christian Cage again in WWE.

TNA iMPACT spoilers (airing next week).

Spoiler [+]
Prior to the start of the taping for next week's edition of Impact, TNA taped a segment for a future episode of Impact where Mike Tenay and Don West stood at the top of the ramp; their microphones were not on for the live crowd. Tenay and West then got in the ring where they did a 2008 recap and hyped matches for the airing of the New Year's edition of Impact. They then taped The Beautiful People vs. Roxxi & Taylor Wilde with the Beautiful People winning after Angelina Love pinned Roxxi. After they taped next week's TV they filmed Beer Money, Inc. defeating LAX to retain the TNA Tag Team Championship in a match that will be included on the New Year's episode.

TNA Impact (Airing Next Thursday, December 4th on Spike TV):

* The show opened with a Main Event Mafia segment where Kevin Nash calls out Team 3D for what they did last week. Team 3D ends up coming out and Brother Ray announces that they will be the tag team partners for AJ Styles & Samoa Joe at Final Resolution. The rest of the TNA Frontline end up in the crowd and Rhino says that this week's edition of Impact is dedicated to taking out the Main Event Mafia. Rhino tells Sting that he made the wrong choice and Brother Ray gets the crowd going.

* Booker T w/Sharmell b. Samoa Joe to retain the TNA Legends Championship after the Beautiful People came to the ring and interfered, spraying perfume in Joe's eyes.

* AJ Styles & Christy Hemme b. Scott Steiner & TNA Knockout Women's Champion Awesome Kong in an inter-gender tag team match. The finish actually saw Hemme pin Kong obviously building towards their match at Final Resolution.

* Consequences Creed, Jay Lethal, & Eric Young b. Jimmy Rave, Sonjay Dutt w/SoCal Val, & Sheik Abdul Bashir. Bashir left the match before it started and joined West & Tenay on commentary. After the match, Bashir attacked Eric Young which resulted in Young stealing the X Division title and celebrating with it in the ring with Creed and Lethal.

* Kurt Angle comes out for an in-ring promo and calls out Jeff Jarrett. Jarrett comes out and Angle talks about how this could be his last Impact but he's more focused than ever for his match at Final Resolution against Rhino. Jarrett ends up saying that if Angle thinks that he is going to mess with his family, his company, or his career it will be over his dead body.

* Rhino b. TNA Champion Sting in a non-title match. Kurt Angle and AJ Styles came out during the match and when Angle tried to interfere the distraction allowed Rhino to hit Gore and get the pinfall. Post match saw the rest of the Frontline come out and celebrate in the ring as Impact goes off the air.

How WWE pulled off Edge swerve at Survivor Series.

- WWE did not call and tell Edge to be at Survivor Series until Saturday night. Apparently this was done to keep the swerve by WWE Creative as top secret as possible and to eliminate any speculation that he would be winning the WWE Championship at the pay-per-view. Sources have told us that Edge was not ready for the match at all and had virtually no time to prepare. He flew direct from Tampa to Boston.

Vladimir Kozlov not ready for the main event scene.

- The feeling backstage in WWE is that Vladimir Kozlov was not ready for the WWE Championship match against Triple H at Survivor Series and his push at the top appears to be over. Some people still think that Kozlov is talented but it was more of a case of too much of a push too fast. Others are not as optimistic and have hammered Kozlov for losing the crowd in a match with one of the company's top guys in Triple H.

Mike Adamle's future in the WWE.

- I have been told that WWE is letting Mike Adamle's contract expire and that he is finished with the company. There is no heat on Adamle but the feeling was that things simply did not work out. Adamle's contract reportedly expires in the next two months as he was believed to have made upwards of $300,000 in one year with WWE.

DH Smith feels he's the best out of the 2nd/3rd Generation wrestlers.

Speaking of DH Smith and TJ Wilson, the Miami Herald posted a new article today featuring quotes from DH Smith.

Smith told Jim Varsallone of the Miami Herald the following when asked about other second and third generation workers in WWE: "Well, this may sound kind of brash, but I think that I'm better than all of them. Joe Hennig is good. Ted DiBiase Jr. has certainly worked hard enough to get to his position, but they aren't from the dungeon... It's only going to be a matter of time before I go up to SmackDown, and then I'm going to show the wrestling world exactly why I am the past, present and future."

Growing fear within WWE that cuts are imminent.

[font=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Jason Powell of Prowrestling.net is reporting that there is growing concern amongst road agents and creative team members in WWE that cuts may be coming to their departments as well. It appears as though the concern is no longer solely within the talent department, but that other areas of the staff are worried they could be cut at any time.

With WWE recently altering the referee scheudle, where certain refs will now work Raw, ECW and Smackdown as opposed to just one brand, the fear within the company is that WWE may be looking to cut from all areas of production.

Paul Heyman editorial: Hardy plot was bad business for WWE.

WWE arrogantly displayed their inability to understand public perception with the ill-conceived 'Jeff Hardy has been hospitalised' storyline going to into the Survivor Series PPV this past Sunday.
I'm not here to judge whether the plot twist was in good taste or bad taste.

And to be blunt it would be rather hypocritical of me to point fingers about whether a storyline crossed any lines or boundaries.

Pro wrestling, or sports entertainment, is at its best when the emotions spill over and people stop thinking about 'real v fake' - and start caring about the next twist, turn and progression in the storyline.

The story of Hardy getting jumped in his hotel lead to Edge's return, which lead to Hardy accidentally knocking out Triple H with the chair, which in turn lead to HHH losing the WWE Title because of Hardy's actions in attempting to get revenge on his alleged assailant.

We got ourselves some interesting plot twists here!

Even better, Edge v HHH v Hardy is a Triple Threat match for the WWE title in which any man can emerge as champion. That's intriguing.

Lots of different scenarios can play out in this one. People are genuinely interested. Nothing wrong with that.

So, what was so wrong about the storyline?

Was it that WWE has blurred the line on its own in-house website, which is where news like Eddie Guerrero's death or the Chris Benoit family tragedy has been first broken?

Was it the eerie feeling some people had on the morning of a big show, hearing about a top star being found unconscious in a hotel, invoking memories of Eddie and even Brian Pillman?

We're back to the issue of 'taste'. For some people, the manner in which WWE presented this storyline twist was just revolting.

The callous view taken by WWE chairman Vince McMahon and those around him, not even taking into account how brazenly insensitive this storyline may be viewed, is yet another in a long line of demonstrations by McMahon that getting people talking is paramount. He feels that no rules apply because 'it's only entertainment' and people should embrace the soap opera-like enticements to stay tuned.

I think it was just bad business.

WWE made the conscious choice to present a scenario that called for speculation as to why the reportedly twice-suspended Hardy was found unconscious in his hotel.

Not once did WWE report the entire day 'Hardy was jumped by an unknown assailant' - that 'new information' was revealed only during the PPV broadcast.

To make matters worse, WWE acted like regional promoters in the 1970's, appearing to be almost giddy at the fact several mainstream news agencies picked up the story as legitimate.

"They're buying it as a shoot!" Whoopie!

This type of behavior just leaves such a bad taste in the mouths of people who already look down on pro wrestling/sports entertainment.

I remember one time McMahon was so angry at me that his face turned neon purple because he was lamenting about the fact WWE draws so many people to their television shows, and yet the advertising rates for WWE programming are a percentage of what other shows, who don't have a comparable audience, can charge. I made the statement that to mainstream advertisers, WWE fits in the category of 'low brow' and that to them, we'll always be served our Thanksgiving turkey out the back door.

Vince was furious with the statement.

"We're just like movies and every other form of entertainment," he bellowed. "What makes us less in anyone's eyes?"

The answer to Vince's question is: "The way the Jeff Hardy storyline was presented and carried out."

The omission of details of why Hardy was hospitalised, the obvious conclusion the fans reading the story could come to, and the fact WWE thought it was appropriate to leverage its good will to not immediately inform the inquiring media "this is just a storyline, like every other form of entertainment (ahem)" played into the hands of those who believe this is low brow, bottom feeding entertainment.

I don't personally view pro wrestling or WWE that way.

But this past Sunday, McMahon and his staff sure gave those critical of the industry all the ammunition they needed. The worst part about it is the storyline would have been just as successful with just some safeguards in place to ensure WWE comes across as 'mainstream'.

Instead, World Wrestling Entertainment looked just like the billion dollar evolution of the old carnival rasslin' circuit.

Taker needs to go back to that character or the one right before that.

at Adamle robbing the WWE of 300K for that awful job he did.

Incase you hadn't noticed, ever since the birth of Stephanie's second child, all on-screen appearances she's only been shot from the chest up. Thishas not been an accident because apparently she's gained quite a bit of weight after her last pregnancy and has a rather low self-confidence with the wayshe looks. So until she loses some weight, don't expect to see any full body shots of her or to see her in anything more revealing than a business suit.

In a recent blog post, Jim Ross made special mention of ECW Superstar Jack Swagger, and put over his undefeated street fight record in Oklahoma University.According to Ross, Swagger is championship material and will likely hold a title in a year's time.

JR also highlighted the match between Swagger and Tommy Dreamer this past week on ECW, saying it was a "good bout".
