Lyrically, Jay went in on this album. It features his worst beat selection though.

It is one of Jay's worse tho....thats the thing, its a GOOD album, but in comparison to his other albums, it dont rank well.
it had 3 maybe 4 questionable songs. i'd take it over The Dynasty, BP2, and even Vol 2 any day of the week.
but my opinion of jay's music is far different from the average NTer so.....

Like punchlines and metaphors have to be wrapped in a nice lil gift basket for your enjoyment...
Nobody said it was supposed to be "great", I just like how open to interpretation that line is...Hella layers. This is art, The answers aren'talways obvious.
Basically what Kay said was right, But it can have many meanings. Irony in the fact that while N's is so street savvy and smart, and can excel on theblock, they can't apply those same smarts and wits in the classroom. Thus they get left back...Or drop out altogether.
Or maybe their street "smarts" LITERALLY got "left back"...Brains on the pavement.

For some reason I never got this line until it was explained to me, then I was like Dang thats kinda tight, not the sickest but still kinda tight.
"Run from the [k]night or we'll end up in the 'sun'"
Sick to me from the recent jay
and a line quickly becoming my favorite, just because of the poitics of it
"gotta get bush out the chair, gotta give Obama the floor, Or bring back Regan atleast we were getting that raw"
When I heard this I was like WOW the boy is nice, and in a freestyle.

NYMP is one of the hardest songs Jay ever had. And honestly, Vol 3. had some of Hov's best flows. He even spit on that Mariah Carey joint.
He was just lazy with hooks and beat selection, so I think cats hated.

I had this but slept hard on it cause I was kinda young when this album dropped,although I still skipped school that day just to get it SMH
