I have a full scholarship plus additional scholarship money that I get to keep for myself. My dorm room is free so only thing I pay for is transportation,food, and books but the other scholarships more than make up for those expenses.

im not going to lie, it is nice.
but before that i took out a loan to pay for tuition, i figure if you are in a private school or out of state.
you can most likely get by with just working and taking out small loans, i dont know how else to get a
full ride in out of state schools without the school offering it to you.
lastly check your EFC, and go to the scholarship website/dept.

A few small loans + my own money (earned from co-op/internships) + parents.
Ideally, you want to incur as little debt as possible.
Whether your parents are loaded and pay for you, or your school is so cheap your parents can pay without breaking their backs, or you're on scholarship, oryou work, or you're given a grant or a combo of the aforementioned methods.
The good thing about student loans is that the interest is relatively low compared to another loans.

im tryna go to Ny or Miami ...but any body know what to do... i know that if your out of state you gotta pay more...is that true...if so how do you become aresedent for the stae..i need to know asap.

Do you all think i have a good chance at getting a decent amount of financial aid?
A little background: My mom is in jail and my dad does not work, i do not live with either one of them though,
i live with my grandma but she is not my legal guardian.
I am 17 and pay for all of my own stuff such as food, clothing, ect. The only thing i do not pay for is rent and utilities.
Like i said my grandma is not my guardian but she did claim me on her taxes. She makes about $50,000 per year on her retirement but she has quite a bit of debtand is not able to help me much if all with college.
