As I understand it, Google ads are generated using keywords found on each individual page where the ads appear.

For instance, there's currently a post on page 1 of the general forum about Apple Computers. If you were to click that post, you'd find that all four ads deal with Apple Computers. Click on the Sports forum, you might see ads for NBA Finals tickets, etc. If the search fails to produce any relevant ads, I believe it defaults to ads in our "category."
Of course, we've eliminated probably hundreds of ads from our category by now, so unfortunately many of those ads are now repetitive.

With your help, we have DRAMATICALLY reduced the number of fake ads - and we're still waiting to receive the "master list" from RockDeep that will help us even further. You may remember that someone tried to post a "complete" list of fake ads appearing on Google? Yeah right. If you were to compare that to our block list, you'd be looking at the difference between a book and a pamphlet.

Obviously, new sites pop up all the time so we'll need to be vigilant, but we've made incredible progress in just a few short days.

The free picture hosting will be offered to ALL Yuku members - so we won't be charging for that. Unlimited posting can negatively impact all of our members and viewers, so I wouldn't be interested in selling such an option.

Realistically, I don't think selling "premium" features to regulars would be enough to cover all of our costs. We need a reliable, repeatable source of income - and ads provide that. We have bills to pay EVERY month and while the demand for "plus" features may fluctuate, demand for advertising on NikeTalk is something we can count on. What we will try to do, though, is find a way to minimize intrusive advertising by exploring alternative fundraising options, like the possibility of plus features, limited apparel runs, etc. to supplement ad revenue. I'd much rather provide goods and services people LIKE to help us meet our fundraising goals, but as has been stated throughout this thread - advertising is a necessary evil when it comes to content based services such as ours. There are ads on blogs, ads on myspace, etc. etc. Unfortunately, it comes with the territory since you're going to entertain far, far more passive viewers (read: freeloaders) than active participants willing to pay for additional products and features. Since they generate so much of the cost, they must be accounted for in the solution.

You're free to do as you wish, but remember that our forum regulars comprise a small minority of our total viewership. Whereas many of our regulars would be happy to help support NikeTalk by clicking on our ads - even if you had to go to a separate "sponsors" page to do so - the clicks we need to WORK for are those from the non-posting viewers. The majority of our visits are recorded by members who do NOT have NikeTalk accounts. Of the 100,000 people who visited NikeTalk today, the overwhelming majority of them have NOT read this topic. They won't be motivated to click, as you might be, simply to support the community.

We need the support of our regulars, but it's not fair to ask you guys to shoulder the burden alone. So, we need to figure out how to best engage the rest of our audience. That's what these tests are all about.

Thanks to last week's tests, we now KNOW what the support of our regulars looks like. If this other format works better for drawing in the viewing only crowd, we'd see a spike in participation regardless of whether you click the ads or not. Non-posting viewers outnumber our regulars at least 2:1.

If you SAY you don't like the ads - we'll listen and weigh that against whatever additional participation results from various ad styles. If you stop clicking, all that's really going to accomplish is to reduce the amount we'll be able to donate to charity when the test is over.

Okay. Do you want a cookie from them? If you even bother to read the entire post, or at least the first post made, you would know why the ads are here and why other websites are able to go ad-free while NT tries to stay profit-free.

Non-profit as in not trying to exploit the shoe community for "the love of shoes."

Hey, I do what I can. As mentioned in the first post: now that we can actually make a good run at paying our bills, we can give back more than ever to the community. Granting everyone unlimited page views is the first step in that direction. Ads finally allow us to afford offering unlimited views.

Man Meth, thats when I stayed with my brother, dude went postal on my names. I'm in college now, well home for the summer. You can see the big difference in post. Have you ever seen me go ignorent on this name? No sir, I don't plan on it either.
