Laborers Recruit Apprentices

New York City, NY (September 09, 2014) -

The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Construction and General Building Laborers, Local Union #79, will conduct a limited recruitment from October 10, 2014 through October 23, 2014 for 100 skilled construction craft laborer apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Peter M. Rivera announced today.

The recruitment for Local Union #79 will be offered online from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. every business day during the recruitment period. The recruitment will be offered for 10 business days or until 1,000 applicants are reached, whichever comes first. Applicants who do not have Internet access may visit their local library or call 311 and ask for the nearest New York State Career Center.

The Committee requires that applicants:

Must be at least 18 years old at the start of the program.
Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED).
Must attest to being physically capable of performing the work of a skilled construction craft laborer.
Must pass a pre-hire drug screening, at the applicant's expense, after acceptance into the program.
Must provide military transfer card or discharge form DD-214, if applicable, after selection and prior to indenture.
Application Instructions:

Go to http://www.mttf.org/.
Follow the links for Local Union #79.
You will see directions on how to apply.
Fill out the required fields.
Applicants may only apply once during the 10-day recruitment.
If you anticipate moving within the next 12 months, please enter both your current address and future address (or a family member's address that is consistent). Letters will be mailed to both addresses at the same time.
Click "Submit."
You will receive an email that says, "Thank you for applying."
Wait for a letter requesting that you schedule an interview (this could take up to 18 months, depending on economic conditions).
Everyone that successfully applies will be mailed an invitation for an interview.
Please understand that more applicants will apply than we can fit in our pool of candidates. You may not get through this time. However, we hope work is plentiful and we can have another recruitment in a few months.

So they let me go after I got back from vacation. I'm trying to get unemployment cause the let me go maybe with un probable cause. I submitted my vacation slip in 3 months prior to vacation date and he just looked at me and said no verbally and and also said " we will revisit this as the dates get close witch he never did and never gave back my slip. So I believe he didn't follow the company policy of filing my vacation slip. So I went, came back and let me go. I gave him 3 months to get his stuff together before I go and he he didn't. And while I was gone his best buddy that was with him in the navy got a week off un paid and he hasn't even have 90 days with the company and still came back with a job. So im going to call HR and talk about before I file.

My question is what you think my odds are in gettin unemployment? Hopefully I get a good aoumnt so that I can go back to school.

Passed the initial phone interview and just scheduled a final in-person interview for this week.

This is the only potential job I have in the pipeline, so would any of you fine NT brethren have any last minute advice?

PS - I've been unemployed for 2+ months, so don't want to come off as desperate.

Wear a suit, show up early, smile, be prepared, don't come off as desperate and you'll have majority of competition beat. Don't let any question surprise you:

Strengths + weaknesses?

Tell me about a situation where there was a conflict with you and a co-worker, how was it resolved?

When did you exceed expectations?

Have your own questions prepared for them. What is the biggest challenge employees in this job face? Do you support employees who want to further their education?  w/e you care about

Awesome. I have a Word document with all the typical interview questions and how I would answer them. I definitely recommend this to NT fam.

Thanks for the help. It's a small firm (<6 people), so I imagine they're really focused on how you fit.

PM it to me

Don't know if any of you guys would be interested but the car business is booming right now, you work weekends and more hours than most jobs but if you give it your all the money can be quite rewarding. I've been in it for 8 years and can't see myself doing anything else.

I submitted my vacation form 3 months prior to the date and he said he'll lmk when it gets closer to the date.( I spent 1300 on flight tickets and damn well I wont pay another 300 to cancel my flight it was all or nothing.) never got nothing back assuming he jotted it down on his calender. So I went came back and let me go cause it wasn't "approved" without letting me know or returning my document vacation slip at a mannered time. While i was gone the supervisors buddy buddy from the navy gave him a week off un-paid and he hasnt had a 90 days on the job yet. So idk if its singling me out or a racist thing cause he got 3 months to get his ish straight before I leave.

Went on 2 interviews for Analyst positions.  The lady that was supposed to interview me today called in sick
ohwell.gif
so I was interviewed by someone else.  Hope I get a call for one of those 2 positions (been out of work since November, and I have a long list of thing I want to buy).  I occasionally get calls for other offers but this is what I want to do next so I decline them and wait for one of these to pane out.

I'm back asking where them high paying incredibly easy nyc jobs at? :nerd:

Perhaps jobs for misanthropes?

I know a few yall NTers are doing it and not sharing (maybe this aint even the right thread to ask  ) but given this part time stuff I'm thinking of heading back to AC for a bit.

i understand that you submitted it previously

but you can't just take vacation without approval man

he may have been more understanding if you told him a week in advance and told him that you had already paid for your tickets

1 TIP.

I dont think craigslist, indeed or any other job searching website helps. Idk if it just me cause whenever I went to their interviews there's always 9-10 people getting interviewed for this 1 position.

Unless youre experience is perfectly fit for the position they wont hire you.

What i did was visit every single one of the companies website one on one and applied there. I think its better to avoid these websites and look for it on your own. Look for jobs that aren't listed on these websites so you have a better chance of getting hired.

Just my two cents,

What was your degree in Supply Chain? I am starting to look for work in Logistic and where are you located ?

Congrats to:pimp:

I am located in Southern California. My degree(B.A in Psychology) is completely opposite of Logistic. I guess it relates to it somehow.
