Jobless and Frustrated NTers check in VOL. WE NOT-WORKIN!!!

if a company don't mention or ask about salary preference or current salary during the phone interview, and asks you to come in for an in-person, does that mean they are extremely flexible? Normally companies normally asks me about that but there are 2 places that told me to come in without asking.

if they are unwilling to talk about salary over the phone they already have a set wage for you. So theres no wiggle room to negotiate.

Thats just my past though, might be different.

I interviewed for a job a while back and didn't get it. Good idea to email the Manager in that dept. to inquire about any openings? I don't know how to go about it, or word my email.....tips or suggestions?

Got my first post grad phone interview today. Was kinda of hard to hear her with me being at work and her accent.

It was with a company I kinda knew I applied for but wasnt really looking to work with them. But anyways it was a standard interview asking how I can help the company with my skill set, how can I show leadership, since we so many that have applied for the position could you tell me in a sentence that will make you stand out from others what would that be.(gave a generic answer

).

I will say that I should change my address to a DC address since she asked I see you are living in Louisiana are you moving out here and when.  I said June, she was quick to dismiss the interview until I had to cut her off with a na na na. She asked what is the soonest I could come for an interview if I am selected for one. I said give me a date and I will be there but thinking now I should have said tomorrow.

Going to look up the company just cause to see what position I applied for. I believe it is some non profit funding company that looking to make entry level positions to manager. I not for those type of companies that look to push employee to management. Just seem like they would be quick to let you go.

With that being said im going to look for opening at Enterprise while im at it.....

Fellas,

I landed an interview this coming Friday, it's for an engineering company (entry level) which would be a great fit for me to start my career. The problem is, I have little to no practical experience in the field, how do I go about "selling" my skills and attributes without the experience to back it up? I'm 0/3 on interviews so far, any tips and pointers to close the deal would be great. Thanks

Do you have a degree?

You gotta push the fact that you got your BA, then. The fact that you have no internships is kind of tough, I might even say look for internships even though you're done with school.

I thought that STEM grads were out here eatin :nerd: The fact that you have had 3 interviews so far tells me that at least **** is ripe for you. You'll get something

Thanks for the response.
I actually got called back for another interview opportunity, he's going to call me back tomorrow to set a date and time for this week. So that's 2 interviews I should have for this week. I'm thinking something is looking right on my resume for me to be getting call backs at least. Wish me luck bro's, might have to cop a new blazer to rock for the interviews, my wool blazer ain't cuttin it in this weather

Most annoying thing ever. Especially when you''ve sent out a flurry of apps and you receive like ten of those in a week.

i had an interview Monday and just one today in the AM and wore everything the same except that I was too lazy to belt on a belt and a tie clip. I would probably switch suits for the second rounds though.

keep your head up fam, patience is key and try to not let your current work situation affect you outside of work.

Do you have a degree?

Yea I have my B.S. in Civil Engineering, just no prior relevant work experience(recent grad)

Just sell yourself. Be yourself. Sell them on the fact you're hungry and willing to learn and put in the work to help put the company in a better position. Sell them on the fact that you are someone that people will want to work with.

Most of the time, companies prefer hiring a guy right out of college than someone with experience because they can pay you less and you're not going to demand much. Goodluck
