Buying a house isn't the same thing it was 5 or 10 years ago, given our current state economically.

Now a car isn't a great buy either if you're trying to be truly fiscally responsible, but let's not pretend like a house is a great idea either. Hell, plenty of "investments" aren't great investments right now. Dude won a little something, let him spend it how he wants. It's not likehe won enough money he can live off of forever on some 300 million powerball winnings. It's a nice chunk of change, he can get himself out of any debt hehas which is more than most can say, and have some left over to buy himself something nice. That's a good deal to me. If he wants to invest it,that's his choice.

Here is someone with no knowledge.

You won't be able to buy a house with 100K. You will not afford the house nor the loans the pay it off.

You can buy a ton of houses for under $100k, Ive seen decent houses that needed a little work for $20K in the suburbs. Real estate prices are lower then they have been in years. I could buy a decent condo in one of the nicest parts of town with $100k around here.

Not saying to buy a house/condo, but the deals you can find now are amazing. My dad recently got a condo that really didn't need much work. It was in agated complex in a really nice part of town for 50% less than the previous owner paid. One of his friends bought two condos for $50k a piece as well.

1) clear any debts you personally have (credit card, old loans, etc.)
2) Put away a good chunk in a high interest savings account (ING, etc.)
3) Invest a little
4) By a car (get a good deal!)
5) Help out the fam if you can
6)put a payment on a house/land, now is the time for buyers, especially with cash.

Now that I think about it, this advice all depends on whether you are getting yearly payments from it or a lump sum. Be smart with you money!
pretty much sums it up and I hope you took the lump sum

You realize in Little Haiti you can buy a home all-in for around $50K. Two of those = $100K, and these homes rent out for about $1,400 a month. So you'regetting around $35K/year in rental income. After a couple of years, you've earned back your initial investment AND you still maintain your principal(ownership of the homes). I understand that if you only have $130,000 in cash, this isn't the wisest investment, but I'm not gonna sit here and let allyou financial genius' talk about how home investments are a bad idea right now. If you got the cash, it's the BEST thing you can put your money into atthe moment. Don't even get me started on the guys with $10mm+ in cash that are getting mortgages for PENNIES on the dollar right now.

What are you basing that on? All i see is anecdotal evidence... houses are iffy right now, that's all there is to it. Just because you knowone guy who did this one thing one time, doesn't mean it's universal.

Buy the cheapest/affordable/efficient car you can find <------------------------------That's the best thing you can do.

No need to spend 20K+ for a car at your age. That's just a waste. Oh and BTW, DO NOT buy a new car.

Save it for the future and you won't regret it.

how is this going over any of your heads.

100+k in free money...BUY THE DAMNED HOUSE...in this market, houses are selling under market value...hold on to the thing for a few years and when things getback to normal you've just made maybe 3-5x your initial investment.

look for 0-80k house. Rent that out to cover property taxes, insurance and utilities. Live off the rest, sell down the road, viola..you're richer.

ITS YOUR TIME TO SHINE , couple pointers

-schools for losers(you funna drop 30K so you can get up everyday at 6am and make just enough to cover your crib, utilties and whip?)
-it aint trickin if you got it
- get money !!## birds
