The Greatest Soccer Player Ever...

I don't think an out-and-out striker could be the greatest footballer ever. There's got to be more dimensions to a player.

Ronaldo, in his prime, could very well be the greatest striker ever. But then one could debate that, too.

Zidane better than Ronaldo? No.

George Best was not better than Ronaldo... I'm sorry.

Y'all saying Maradona is better than Pele are tripping... That 1958 team was one of the greatest of all time in my opinion.

Zizou isn't necessarily better than Ronaldo... y'all are forgetting the WORLD CUP DOMINANCE of Ronaldo... He would've had 3 (THREE) straight if hewasn't sick in '98 (look up the story)... I might give Zizou the edge because injuries really killed Ronaldo's career, but I don't thinkit's as clear cut as y'all say it is.

Yeah, that's right.. He "would've" been a difference that turned a game that Brazil lost 3-0 into a Brazil win.

Also, are you friggin kidding me, saying three straight, somehow crediting him with the 94 WC win for Brazil? Darko Milicic had more impact on the 2004 DetroitPistons' championship than Ronaldo did in Brazil's 94 winning.

Zidane would've had 3 (THREE) straight if he wasn't injured (really injured, not still able to play like Ronaldo in the 98 final) in 2002 andwasn't provoked by Materazzi in 06. Not to mention that Zizou had a better club career than Ronaldo as well.

You guys are all forgetting about Garrincha. My dad used to tell me he prolly was as good as Pele.

Gotta love Zidane, just because he had the guts to do that in the final at a WC and his game was just sick. Ronaldo was cold blooded as a striker butdidn't have much else. Pele would have been unreal in any generation and Maradona is the man with three balls...two big ones and a soccer ball......

The REAL Ronaldo was maybe the greatest pure goal scorer of all time...

The greatest creative/attacking player of all time, Maradona, Pele, Zizou

And the greatest defenders of all time (respect the defenders) Franz Benckenbauer and Paolo Maldini

its hard to compare guys like pele to the ones playing in todays game because the game was much simpler back then (not as much creativity in the style of play, which sorta takes away some of the finesse to his play). As for the most dominant...that definitely goes to Pele.

The greatest to play in the 90s would be Zidane.
He's not even the greatest Ronaldo ever huh?

Ronaldo was amazing at PSV, he killed it at Barcelona and the first couple of years with Inter Milan he was great.
He blew out his knee couple of times but then came back and played for Madrid. He played really well, i mean he wasn't the same explosive Ronaldo
like he use to be but the man knew how to score. Yeah he's been having weight issues and played ok with AC Milan but then got hurt again.
He's now playing in the Brazil league for Corinthians, He's 32 now but i strongly believe if he stays healhty and plays well he will be in the 2010Brazil world cup squad.

Bottom line if Ronaldo could of stayed Healhty he would of been ONE of the greatest soccer players ever.
Even when he was out of shape he scored 3 goals in the 2006 world cup, Cristiano Ronaldo had just 1.
I hate when people compare players that dont even play the same position.

Cristiano Ronaldo is a good young player but I take Messi and Kaka over him.

GOAT arguments are pointless.

Ronaldo was a beast in his day (as was the forgotten hero Romario) - that can't be denied, but nowadays he's not somebody I'd try to pick up womenwith nor is he the first name that comes to mind when I think "GOAT."

I probably don't have as much insight into this topic like some of you do, but from what i know, Pele is the best..

Many say he was the best Brasilian player of all time who, sadly, didn't get the worldwide recognition he deserved, but many people whoactually know the history of football won't hesitate to mention him among the very best that ever was. Ronaldo was one of the greatest strikers that everwas. No doubt about that, but he didn't move and control the pace of the game like a chessboard the way players like Zidane, Franz Beckenbauer, Johan Cruyf & Maradona did. Those are the best ever.

You guys never cease to amaze me, Ronaldo the greatest of all time? Are you serious? Maradona is the greatest hands down and Messi will be be there if hecontinues to develop at the rate he is, its scary how good he is at only 21...

Pele was part of great teams, however, Maradona elevated his teams to greatness (See: Argentina and Napoli). I've watched highlights from the1958 World Cup, and the game was a joke back then. Pele was a beast running circles around the opposition who looked clueless most of the time. Fast forward tothe 1970s and beyond and you couldn't get away with the crap that Pele did during his prime.

Zizou was a more impactful player than Ronaldo. Ronaldo was on the 94 WC squad but he only played in 1 game I think so your "3 straight" argumentdoesn't hold. Zizou won every single title you can think of. He was the glue that held the French team together. He also won a UCL title, something Ronaldonever did. While it's difficult to compare a pure goalscorer to a play-making midfielder, I think that the game always revolved around Zizou and he wasmore instrumental in carrying his teams than Ronaldo.
