The Greatest Soccer Player Ever...

Cristiano is not the greatest player ever.

Dudes like 23-24? He needs a World Cup and maybe a change of scenery from EPL. I hope he moves to Madrid. He has the potential to be amongst the greats.

I hate comparing the best players ever.. theres too many opinions to be considered and the topic is largely subjective.

For what its worth, R9 was something else, I have yet to see a striker like him. Ronaldinho used to show flashes of Ronaldo. Another thing, Ronaldo has been tothe WC 4x, '94, '98, '02, and '06. I too hope he makes the '10 squad, it would be a tremendous honour.

I also hope Kaka and Ronaldinho make it to 2014 in Brazil.

Guys in here naming Ronaldinho, he isn't even the best player onhis own team and he wasn't the best when he left his previous team either.

I have nothing against people thinking that Maradona was greater than Pele, but please don't act like Argentina wasn't a great team minus Maradona.First of all, Argentina won the 1978 World Cup, just 8 years before Maradona led the country to the 1986 title, but the 1986 team also had big names other thanMaradona, although Maradona was of course the leader.

I've watched highlights from the 1958 World Cup, and the game was a joke back then. Pele was a beast running circles around the opposition who looked clueless most of the time. Fast forward to the 1970s and beyond and you couldn't get away with the crap that Pele did during his prime.

Didn't Pele lead his team to a World Cup title in 1970 in spectacular fashion?

How are people mentioning Ronaldinho as the greatest? Im a BIG supporter of him, but hes not even Top 5, Top 10 maybe

Maradona won Fifa Player of the Century off votes. They gave him the award but didn't televise it. They gave it to Pele on camera.

Maradona is G.O.A.T.

I dont want to discredit Pele's accomplishments because he is one of the all-time greats. However, one can argue that Brazil could win withoutPele. In fact, they did so in 1962 when Pele got hurt in the first match of the tournament and didn't play another game after that. My main point is thatPele was surrounded by some very good players and they won when they were expected to win. On the other hand, Argentina wouldn't have even come close towinning the 86 World Cup without Maradona carrying that team. Argentina won in 78 with a TON of help (playing at home, playing at night, beating Peru 6-0 undersuspicious circumstances to make the WC finals) etc. It's a shame Maradona couldn't be a part of that team, I think Argentina's coach at the timesaid that Maradona was too inexperienced to make the WC squad of 78.

How can someone say Pele is the GOAT when they never seen him play?

I notice it's usually the guys that only watch soccer during the world cup that say this.

I'm not as knowledgeable as a lot of you in here who follow soccer WAY closer than me, but I gotta say its Maradona.

I agree with some saying Ronaldo might be the best striker ever, but theres no way he's the GOAT. Injuries denied him of that possibility.

I agree with this completely. I don't want to discredit Pele either, none of us watched him play but if you look at the highlights the gap in skill is soevident.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didnt Pele acknowleges that Maradona is the best ever?
Or something that the consensus of the football world agreed that Maradona was the best (is that the online voting thing?) ,something along those lines.

Fat Ronaldo was an animal. injuries hurt his legacy though.

Zidane would rank higher than him and he hardly gets a mention in GOAT talks.

For who I've witnessed, during his Juve years, Zizou was a complete animal.

LOL...the OP must be like 15 years old or somethin and recently started playing with ronaldo on xbox and thinks hes the GOAT

GOAT belongs to either pele or maradona, those are the top 2 players in the world who have ever played the game, now go learn something

This is a hard question to answer. I must say RoRo is definitely a top 5 player. I remember this guy the way he dribble thru 5,6 defenders and score goalsat ease. Look at everything he accomplished and hes been injured, now imagine if he would have stay healthy thru out. most goals in WC history, 3 fifa playerof the years awards. Maradona is great and he might be the best, But when people in Argentina voted for the best player in history It was not Maradona thatwon, but rather JUAN ROMAN RIQUELME.

Here is my top 5 of all time. Keep in mind this is my opinion.

1.- R9
2.-Maradona.
3.- PELE
4.-Ally mccoist.
5.-Marco van basten.

Its so difficult, so many players.

BTW: MY FAVORITE PLAYER TODAY.
