Takes me back a few years to middle school when a ton of kids had the barkleys but I remember only one kid had the IX's. Everyone thought they where ugly.

I ended up with the penny's that year and the cross trainer airmax 2 but never had the barkley airmax 2 until they where retroed and I bought the Nikeretro trainers for the nostalgia factor.

Just to add to that...Everyone at my school thought the 11's where ugly too and I was one of 3 kids with the XI's. Those where hard to get in Utah.

i actually got my first job that year (in high school) at Champs Sports. i remember getting the 9s to wear to work (matched the ref-style striped uniforms ofthe time) and i remember when the retros started arriving and thinking who would buy these old shoes for $100?!? geez i was naive. i remember stocking thoseboxes so clearly and the giant retro cards, we thought nike was nuts...

I remember walking into Sports Chalet here in San Diego and seeing PILES of AJ2 retros for 9.99!

The AJ3 sold really well though, the AJ1s did decent (at least in San Diego).

AJXs failed horribly.

The XIs really breathed life into the Jordan line and I was hooked when I first saw them at Footlocker. BTW do you guys remember when Footlockers had ascoreboard and hardwood everywhere?

9s dont look good but i pretty much like all the 10s CWs.

Barkley was coming off his MVP season and penny was the next big thing, a tall PG who could be on both ends of the alley-oop.

and MJ was just about to go into his gambling suspension first retirement.

Yup, i can remember those "$19.99" retro days like it was yesterday. Would see em in SportMart all the time. I got myself one pair of each retro backthen which was enough for a snot nosed kid with no money. But ya, they sat on shelves. My buddies who played ball all got pairs though, we were stoked. Backthen the thought of getting multiple pairs didnt even register.

Then I had a friend whose moms bought him the black/charcoal IXs and we all ran and got pairs. To this day the charcoals are the one retro I want.

you know what almost killed my love for Jordans was the Orlando Magic, back when Jordan retired the first time Penny and Shaq were the hotttest thing around. Istill remember going to class and seeing at least 5 kids wearing a Magic jersey. Blue Chips the movie + Lil penny commerical + Shaq/Penny = some hot 90's#*+$

i think those probably killed jordans for me the first time

spring time was approaching and wanted a pair of..

but they was askin too more then what my moms was willing to give...

these were on sale but i REFUSED to get em....i thought they were the ugliest pieces of dirt ever

i settled for these.

im dying for this barkley retro

. any other color idont want. i remember the day jordan announced his retirement i was so heated i stayed home from school. and my moms actually allowed this cuz she saw i damnnear had tears in my eyes

. only j's i liked from then on were the orlando x's after that. didntget back on j's until the XI of course. everybody saying they looked like "clown shoes". ah memories...

When those air max 2 CB's came out, that was THE shoe for Nike...

I remember sittin on the sneaker store benches with "airbubbles" that coincided with the launch of the

2 pressure system nike was rolling out. Another hot shoe the year after was the air max CW, the chris webbers.

First basketball sneaker with airbubbles in the front.

This takes me back to high school. The thread starter is right on point. Except that the 1994 retro Jordan III's were selling good here in Detroit. TheI's also sold aight but not as good as the III's. The II's didn't do to well. Barkley's took over Jordan's starting with the AirForce Max CB that the Fab 5 wore. At this time Barkleys were more expensive than Jordans. Jordan's didn't make a comeback until the XI's. Although I was one of the first in school with the IX's and X's other shoes were more popular. I always wondered why nike didn't put retro cardswith the Barkley releases like the Jordans.

I remember that bench with the air-sole built into it. It was black with an air sole for the seat cushion. The air max CW, barkley's, penny's, and theair max uptempos were all more popular than Jordan's at this time. Until the XI's Jordans were slipping.

i remember my best friend comin back from FL with some cement 3's on. But i thought they were some 8 year old shoes so didnt cop em when i seen em in thestores. If i remember right i went with some all black chuck taylors

oh man i remember seeing the 94 I's wht/reds and II's lows and highs on the clearance racks at Sportmart for $19.99 and there were a lot of em...butthe III's sold pretty good (still have mine DS)...Nobody was ready for retros till 99...when the blk/cmt IV's came out again that sparked it up formany heads..

Now in days though barkley's are weak ,
mainly due to how ignorant and simple minded Barkley is as a commentator ,
not to mention barkley in his prime was decent at best ..

kenny skywalker, shawn kemp , mark price, magic,
bird, mj, larry nance, stockton,
k. malone,
just to name a few that were better than him ,
hell there was alot of players that where better than barkley ,
to many to mention,
so when you look at it from that point ,
his sneaks aint all that ,cause hes a joke,
I wouldnt want to affiliate myself with such a lame dude,
by wearing his kicks its like saying I support barkleys single digit IQ......

Back then yeah,
he was decent and the sneaks were fresh ,
but now there a joke like the man they rep.....
