Here is a little history lesson for all you nike talkers out there, especially the young one's. The reason why Oakland has had such a bad relationship withthe police is due to the fact that during the 50's when Oakland was integrating (yes hard to think that Oakland was almost all white once) the city neededhella more police officers, and of all the places they recruited from most of the officers came from the deep south, ie. Miss, Alabama, Florida. Of course manyof these officers were steeped in the racist culture of the south and they brought that with them to Oakland where for well over 10 years the police terrorizedthe black residents until the Black Panthers started their infamous cop watch program.

4th one was being kept alive so his family could donate his organs. he was brain dead, and they took him off life support. sooo sad man.

I'm sure a if intel was a bit better 2 deaths could've been more easily avoided, but the fact was that guy had an assault rifle and theirvests couldn't do anything about that.

Or maybe some random dude who happened to be black decided he was going to kill people on a rampage. He might have had something in the car, thathe didnt want the cops to see, who knows. But the above paragraph you wrote has nothing to do with the shootings in my opinion.

First off God bless every one involved in this terrilble situation. This happend in MY HOOD where i was born and raised. It seems like the whole hood is in aweright now, it is very violent in East Oakland especially in the 70's up on Mac Arthur but damn you dont exspect !%$$ like this to happen. I am not tryingto take up for any side but i do think that relations between urban youth and the police are %$+#$% up here, & that leads to situations like this. Here inOakland Oscar Grant was killed on new years for nothing at all by police. Situations like that put cats in the street on edge, and in this case I THINK thatthis guy made up his mind that he was not going back to jail. Its sad...cats shootin fully automatic/ automatic guns in the hood, kids outside playin and whatnot, it could have been worse that what it was. On top of that the hood is like a media circus right now, the news has been on the block day and night coveringthe story. I hope that this situation dose not further tear down relations between the police and the youth in my city but i really think that it will. Myselfpersonally have had to deal with the worst of police brutatlity, planting of drugs, stealing/taking my money & beatings all by the hands of foul cops righton these same streets. But still those officers do have familys and loved ones just as the shooter dose...and my heart go's out to all. I really wish thiscould have went down another way, four police officers & another young black man dead due to sinceless violence.

I read that dude was hiding in a closet and shot the two SWAT dudes through the closet door, so I'm not really sure what else could have beendone. You can't really kill a dude if you don't know where he is.

The kid was an Oakland native and product of his environment. To say that the inherit history and culture of Oakland has nothing to do with theviolence that occurs there is false.
The tension between the Oakland 'pigs' and Oakland residents has always been prevalent and this is one of the ways this relationship has beenmanifested.
