Taking apart my FXR. Wanted to be done by the Hollister Rally on the 4th of July, but that won't happen since I'm gonna redo everything and now throw in a 6 speed ******. Wanted to have it done by street vibrations in Reno but I doubt that will happen since I'm working at the new Apple spaceship and we're (hopefully) gonna be going into a lot of overtime soon.

Just picked an Arrow full system s/s white aluminum, a power commander, autotune, bmc race filter and some Dunlop Q3's for the gixxer

Will post up pics once it's done

HAD A SPILL ON THE STREETFIGHTER AT THE TRACK LAST WEEK. FORTUNATELY THE ONLY DAMAGE DONE WAS A BENT SHIFTER AND SCRATCHED WATER PUMP. SHOP BE OUT THE SHOP BY THIS WEEKEND.

Glad to hear it was minimal bro. I'm assuming you're okay too? Hope so.

Took the bike out for a quick spin around town yesterday too. Gotta do my oil change and chain cleaning soon

YEA I'M FINE. HAD ALL MY TRACK GEAR ON. WAS REALLY ONLY A LOW SIDE SLIDE OUT. MY LEAN GAME WAS TOO STRONG ON ONE OF THE TURNS.

GOTTA LOVE NAKED BIKES THOUGH. WAS SHOCKED THAT THE DAMAGE WAS SO MINIMAL THE WATER PUMP STICKS OUT SO FAR ON THE LEFT SIDE IT'S ALMOST LIKE BUILT IN FRAME SLIDERS

Nice to see everyone starting get byke out on their machines, us year-rounders been out here getting it for a while :smokin :smokin

Been looking to ride for a long time now, and finally started the process of getting my permit and taking lesson within the next couple of weeks.

Any tips for a beginner with no previous riding experience? Best place to get gear? Came across Revzilla. What should I look for in a helmet? Best one out for someone in my ability level?

Have muddled over this for the past few weeks and I think I'm leaning towards getting a Honda cbr600rr. Initially thought I was going to get a R3 or maybe a Ninja 300, but came to the conclusion that I may get bored of it sooner than I thought. Also, I feel I have the judgement to ride responsibly and within my riding ability. Not really looking to do trick. I just want to ride around town or out during weekends.

Any other tips and suggestions would be appreciated.

This x 100. Respect the bike and its power.

Gear - I personally like Cyclegear. http://www.cyclegear.com/?gclid=CIz0-MbetssCFc5hfgodOE4AYA

Helmet - I went for a Shoei.

Make sure to always ride in full gear in case you take a spill. Helmet/gloves/jacket are essential. Recommend a pair of boots as well.

By taking lessons I assume you mean an MSF Course? If not, definitely look into signing up for one.

I believe Revzilla was recently acquired by CycleGear, though they both are good companies.

As for what to look for in a helmet, definitely try on a few different brands before buying, especially if you're buying online. Different brands fit differently. Personally I ride with an HJC helmet. It's not as high end as a Shoei or Arai, but I think it does the job for my budget. I've never personally worn Shoei or Arai but other people I've talked to that have worn both high-end and "budget" brand helmets have said that the Shoei and Arai helmets are a little more comfortable. But comfort is subjective. Another helmet brand to look into if you're on a budget is Scorpion, a lot of my friends started out with those helmets and they're not too pricey. Oh yeah, DOT rated helmets are a MUST and SNELL is always a plus.

600 is a good size to start on. Like you said, you would get bored of a 300 very soon.

Take her easy to start. You can always go harder later. Be safe and welcome to the bike lyfe!

Many people also forget to suggest the light-middle weight bikes such as the cbr500 or ninja 650. That's the route I took and I have no regrets.

Got a chance to look through the site. There's so many additional items I'd need. Anyone recommend good gloves and jacket?

Def looking to do a MSF course. I want to be as prepared as I can be. I want to approach this new hobby the right way.

Took a look at some helmets and the Shoei's and Arai's stuck out to me the most. Bell and Scorpion looks great too. I guess I just need to make my way to a shop and try them out.

This was my rationale as well. I'll def ease into it. Pretty made up my mind on getting a 600cc bike to start.

How would the 500 compare to the 600rr? Any thoughts on the R6?

Have seen some nice deals for the Ninja 650, but still not too sure about them.

Is there a consensus #1 beginner 600 bike out there?

I have these gloves and I love them.

what style are you more into? if you want a more forgiving ride, check out standard bikes (which i think the ninja 650 is)

the r6 is a sport bike, so the riding position will have you learning forward...

if you are just cruising around and getting the hang of things, id go with the ninja...

How about the CBR500r?

I don't think I'll need a sport bike. I sat on a R6 and I felt like I would nose dive as soon as I get to 9000 RPMs

Think of the 500 and 650 as bigger versions of the 300s, upright standard sport bikes, where the R6 and cbr600rr are inline 4 race bikes.

Best advice I can give is practice practice and practice. Go to an empty lot and just ride around. Set up some cones similar to the msf course and practice your handling skills. There's no rush in anything, so ride within your limits. It's been 2 years since I got my license and I'm still always a little shakey when going on the highway after a winter break. Takes me a few rides to get comfortable to get back on the highway. Everyone learns and gets comfortable at their own pace. Don't ever feel pressured from other folks to try and keep up with them.

I don't plan on riding with a group. I don't even know anyone who rides

RIDING WITH A GROUP IS MUCH MORE ENJOYABLE NOT TO MENTION, YOU HAVE OTHERS TO HELP LOOK OUT FOR YOU.

On a separately related topic--Would anyone know of a good sports bike forum? Similar to our Niketalk? Came across www.sportbikes.net recently and was curious to see if there were others like it.

I'VE ALWAYS GONE TO WWW.DUCATI.MS BUT I THINK I WILL CHECK OUT THE ONE YOU POSTED.
