I'd put KRIT so far ahead of him its not even funny.

Honestly, if it wasn't for the Roc Nation co-sign I would be willing to put serious cash on it, that NO ONE would be checking for him. He would be Mickey Factz status...or *insert random blog rapper*

Dude just doesn't have "it"...and "it" doesn't mean catchy singles or choruses. He's just boring and its starting to show. None of his features are that great and he hasn't delivered since his feature on "Star is Born"...

Fake grunts and aggression on tracks doesn't mean anything to me. Its contrived and you can clearly tell. Most of his fans are fans of nostalgia, not his actual talent.

Every song he has dropped as a single or something to get buzz just sounds SUPER average and corny. He hasn't found himself. Hes trying to use all these stupid voice inflections to emphasize that hes talented by some means... It seems people force themselves to like his stuff because they want him to win so bad instead of actually feeling a connection to the material. Seems dishonest to me.

its countless rappers that I dont like, but I let em rock. I dont even check to see if they made improvements unless its just coincidentally or I have a reason to, which happened in the case of Kendrick Lamar, and now im somewhat of a fan of dude.

I like Cole, but I'd have to agree with sillyputty about FNL, I haven't played a song off it for awhile, except "Before I'm Gone". A lot of the tracks didn't have any replay value, they were good songs, lyrically, production wise, good topics, but they just didn't grow on you like a lot of other music that's out.

J cole is dope. Ever since FNL Ive been a fan, but he doesn't have that thing that draws people to him. And he didn't prove people wrong who said he couldn't drop a mainstream hit. But I don't think he's worried that, he just wants to release a good album. Also why do people like Big Krit so much? Really another country rapper, rapping about country $*%# and some people think he's the future smh...

Krit has emotion, charisma, and a southern swagger the equivalent to the combination of all of the southern rap greats. I stand by that.

like i think he should step his production up or work with other producers. but that is specifically what i have a problem with.

Cole and Krit are my two favorite new artists I can't pick one over the other. But the thing with Cole is he is holding so much music back for the album that I don't think we have heard his absolute best anything. We've gotten flashes of great production, but mostly just good and we've gotten flashes of great songs. So I feel that everybody should hold their judgement until the album comes out, leaks, or whatever because we'll know he held nothing back.

I never said anything about FACTS. All I stated was there were no examples of why you think he is boring or corny.  If you are going to make a statment or opinion at least show some supporting reasoning for why you feel the way you do. 

It's cool if you don't like Coles inflections but to assume he uses it to "emphasize that he's talent" is a ridiculous statement IMO. This is the second generalization you have made since your initial post today. You also believe many people only check for Cole because of the Roc Nation co-sign.  Like someone else said earlier I too am a fan who started listening to Cole because I heard "I Get Up" and "Lights Please" and had no idea he was signed to RocNation.  I actually connected with dude as an artists because I liked the messages in his songs which I think is his biggest strength.  Cole actually has content that is real and relateable instead of just following the mold of formulaic hip-hop that many other artist produce just to sell records.

You may not like Cole and thats cool but to generalize his fanbase makes your "points" come across quite ridiculous as I don't think you have a pretty good idea of what the majority of Cole's fanbase actually is like.

Really good post Ace! I think the questions you raise are great regarding mainstream hip-hop and its fans.  I think the majority of hip-hop fans are indeed the metaphor of the girl in Lights Please.  There needs to be more diversity in mainstream hip-hop but because that is lacking when someone like Cole comes along and doesn't fit the mold he is deemed "boring" or "corny" which is quite sad that hip-hop fans like being fed the same message consistently.
