The Original Moonwalk Dance In The 1930's

cool, did MJ ever give an origin to the moonwalk?

He didn't invent it, or many of his other moves. B-boys originally called it the backslide if I remember correctly.

you guys actually thought MJ "invented" the moonwalk.... alot of people been making moves similar to MJ well before his time....MJ justcommercialized it...gave it a brand name....

He stole it from Billy Ocean.

nah, he didn't steal the moonwalk from billy ocean, Michael was taught the dance and alot of other moves by jeffrey daniels, a member of the R&B groupShalamar and a former dancer on Soul Train.

your right, the moonwalk wasn't the original name for the "moonwalk" it was called the backslide by breakers and b-boys, the actual moonwalk isthe dance they do in the Smooth Criminal video were you see Michael and his dancers are sliding around in circles using the some similar footwork as thebackslide/moonwalkhere's a video I found of Jeffrey Daniels influence on Michael Jackson that shows a lot of the dances that he taught MJ and hechoreographed the "Smooth Criminal" video and probably the "I'm Bad" video

I read MJ "borrowed" the move from a French mime who recently died. Forgot his name, but saw clips on youtube

edit:

His name is Marcel Marceau

I coulda asked my mother and she woulda told me that...Its common knowledge for the folk in her age bracket.
Jeffrey Daniel was the dance master...
