An art form that has been long overlooked: Video game music.

Well, at least in my opinion it has been overlooked. There are tons of gems that are hidden away in video games that go unrecognized for various reasons. I dont know if site like IGN and Gamespot do this already, but it would be cool to see them do a "Top 25/50/__ video game songs of..." annually. I'm sure I wouldnt be the only person looking and listening. I know YouTube has a few lists, but I think some of these composers need more recognition.

Weather it triggers instant nostalgia and reminds you of a certain time, place, ormoment when you were playing the game, or if you just simply like the way it sounds, video game music is some of the best music around. Since there are no rules or boundaries, there is no one genre to place it. The same can be said for movie scores, but there's definitely a difference in the way it's used and heard by the player/watcher. With games, it's more of an experience than background noise. Think about it.. I bet you can remember the music from a game you played 10 years ago easier than you can remember the music from a movie you used to watch. It's partly due to video games repetitiveness sometimes, but regardless, it's almost always memorable.

If you're looking for a soundtrack to a game, Galbadia Hotel probably has it. They have literally thousands of soundtracks so you can download and reminice all day! lol

Galbadia Hotel

OC Remix is user based site with tons of remixes of tracks from various games. All of the music here is submitted by it's users.

OC Remix

So with that said, drop some gems in here! Post some classics and some tracks that may have been dope, but never heard due to the game not being popular.

I'd say RPGs, mostly square enix games like final fantasy, have really good soundtracks to them

I use a lot of Final Fantasy and Metal Gear music as my study songs. They border on epic for me in terms of composition and emotion.

Nah video game music is definitely not overlooked. There are a lot of people are who actually collectors of video game OST's. Particularly in Japan. With that said, Streets of Rage 2 is one of my favorites.

Don't you mistake this ma, this is not love. It's lust.

like I said, the R4 soundtrack is/was eek.gif x pimp.gif, part of the reason I play that game to this day is for the music
