Good Display Cases

What's up NT? Need some help. I am finally moving out of my tiny condo and am looking at building or buying a new house. My wife has agreed to let me do what I want with the basement, so naturally I will be doing a Jordan basement. I bought a bunch of CDP's to display and need some info on cases. If anyone has GOOD cases that prevent yellowing and aging I'd really like to see some pics or if you have any info on ways to build or things to consider to keep the shoes looking good. I have read that the non-glare conservation glass is the way to go. Anyone do this? Any info or pics would be great. Thanks!
PS- I know a lot of you all hate displaying shoes.. for the record I wear most of my shoes but I have always wanted an awesome display of all the J's... when the CDP quality wasn't great and I was able to get most for cheap it made perfect sense!

Its really all in the air conditioning in the room, and wouldn't a case prevent ventilation?

Then again that's not what you want.

IMO just manage the temperature/humidity like that guy has with the HUGE collection (there was a thread on his collection w/ a video)

I say make your own or buy a china type of display. I'm about to start maknt one but it's going to take some time. It's going to fit 25 sneakers in there. 5x5 (rows and colums) using some top if the line exotic wood. Probably mohagany or black walnut. Ive been talking about it for sometime now and now that I have all the right tools and equipment at my shop I'm about to get it cracking.

I got shelving from Ikea, this won't help with shoes that you don't want to yellow, but are a great depth and look nice for displaying. I'll try to take pics if you want to see it

Dang.... I was hoping SOMEONE had some info on some cases or see some good cases out there that keep the shoes looking clean

yeah, i'm in the same boat. i didn't keep the boxes for some of my shoes when i started collecting, and furthermore, i feel like if i'm not gonna wear some of my pairs that often (some i only wear on special occasions and stuff), then i at least want to have them out on display and see them... so i'm keeping them out in my room on some cheap shelving copped from a couple different places...

the major problem i have is dust, and a lot of it seems to be coming from my ceiling... just white powdery stuff... i've been thinking about looking into something that can be painted across my ceiling to sorta seal it, to stop the dust.

a new friend of mine is a wood major and has offered to help me build a new display case. first thing i thought to do was put some kinda glass or plexi-glass doors on it, to stop some of the dust... i'm also unaware of the risks of keeping shoes out on display, so i'd be interested in any pointers... i don't have the lights on in my room very much, so i don't know that's any issue... all my shoes are in my bedroom so it's air conditioned like the rest of my house, so there's no excessive humidity or dryness, is that ok? nice to hear about that anti-glare conservation glass, but what i'm wondering is, if i seal my ceiling to cut out most of my dust, is the glass even necessary? will it actually prevent the needed ventilation?

good thread tho... seems a lot of people around here keep their shoes stored in the original boxes... i've been wondering what the dangers are of keeping them out on display...

Here's a couple of mine. I got these at Ikea. I rotate stuff through them so they dont yellow and dont get faded.

the detolf cases are dope. those are the only display cases i have for my stuff. only $60 from ikea.

Nice.... No glass though? Hmmm, do you wear those? I have been doing a little research and there is glass that will prevent yellowing... It's gonna take some work but I think I am going to make my own case... I wish I had this case!

Yeah, I wear almost all mine except for the pumps at top, and I don't worry about yellowing too much. I figure that since they aren't "perfect", no point in trying to preserve, just clean them up as well as I can and off I go.

so does the anti glare glass to prevent yellowing end up messing up the ventilation (access to your air conditioner)?

i do want some kinda glass or something cuz one of the bigget points of me making a new display case (besides needing more room) is to keep dust off my shoes...

i really wanna find out if there's something i can paint across my ceiling to seal in the dust, cuz that seems to be where most of my dust is coming from (i've googled this and can't find anything)...

Why so serious?!?

Do you really need to make an entire display for all the CDP's? If you're gonna spend all that money at least put something worthwhile in the case. Shoes that hold meaning to you. Not garbage that JB fed you.

DUST proof cases/rooms??? LOL come on now you can't just get rid of dust. It's in the air you breathe floating around your house. Reduce yes, but you can't eliminate it.

At the end of the day there are MUCH better things you SHOULD spend your money on. If you want a display that's fine, but taking up all this time, energy, and resources for this particular project I'd suggest thinking of other uses for your money. It won't be cheap.

They're just shoes.......WEAR THEM!!!

Well I'm not going to knock the guy for wanting to build/buy a case or display, but you are right about "dust free" rooms, doesn't exist in a house. Just have to dust yourself, haha

^ I'm not knocking having some sort of display type thing. Like yours for instance is nice. Simple and it has shoes that I KNOW for a fact hold some kind of meaning to you. Spending time and effort on a NTNY/Smithsonian style display.....that's just ridiculous.

There is a Dillard's closing near me, and they're selling a bunch of racks/display cases. They have some really fly %%+#, but I think they want a lot for the ill stuff.

I like the cases Marley has. Can you get those at iKea?

"To each their own" bro..... if I want to put time and effort into a case, i'll do that. If you don't then I really don't care. Meaning? really? This is exactly why I am doing this. I am 31 and grew up living each day wondering what the next Jordan would look like. I had white and metallic blue "sky" Jordan's in 3rd grade. I watched every game I possible could with Michael in it. I used to sit an inch away from the screen during all star weekend trying to figure out what those new J's looked like. I agonized through Michael's first 7 years as a pro when they called him a ball hog, choke artist, a guy who could never make his team better, on and on that most don't even know or remember. I wear most of my shoes and I agree, the CDP's aren't great... but they make a good display (I wouldn't do this to my cement IV's) I am building a basement and making it a Jordan basement... if that's not your thing, cool. I get that, people have different tastes. But I am going to load my basement with Jordan memorabilia, my ticket stubs, and a kick *** display case (in my opinion- not yours) of Jordan's. Since I am not wearing these, the CDP are great for this- the quality sucks but it brings back LOTS of memories for me and it will make a great conversation piece for my visitors, friends, family and I for years to come. In MY opinion I am glad to spend MY time and MY money on that. And I'll do all that while WEARING my favorite J's... thanks for your input though!
