News On Future Films Based on Comics/Paranormal/Sci-Fi

Are the movies going to be based on official continuation books? I know you and other people were talking about some in the official thread. What do you recommend I read if I want to find out what happened after episode 6?

Not sure yet if they will adapt the books or just pick and choose pieces. In the prequel trilogy, Lucas used things like the planet Courascant and the species Twilek's in the movies, those were things from the extended universe. So they could small things like that, or do direct adaptations.

As for books. Heir to the Empire was the first extended universe novel to come out, and that trilogy was TREMENDOUS. You can start there, however, that is set 5 years after Jedi. Over time, more books were written that filled in those 5 years.

So depends on you, you can go in order they were released, or in storyline chronologically which would be a different book, that would be The Truce at Bakura. Even further, there is a book set between Empire and Jedi called The Courtship of Princess Leia.

My advice, start with Heir to the Empire.
Dark Force Rising
The Last Command.

That is the og trilogy that started it all. There's now like 75-80 books because of those 3 novels. Get those, see how you feel about them. Have any questions just let me know. I'll guide you any way I can.

I'm sorry, but batman just doesn't belong in a movie with superman.

I'm glad bale isn't attached to this atrocity. In the comic books this might work because the characters have history.

Knowing that batman shares the same world as a bulletproof flying alien cheapens the dark knight franchise. The thing Nolan did was give batman realism.

Well a Batman with realism isn't necessarily the best Batman, plenty other good approaches to make great movies and from here on out we won't be getting a Nolan Batman anyway. The Batman franchise will outlive that and still thrive cuz he's the GODDAMN Batman.

I think a lot of yall just need to let go of this Nolan thing. Chances are 10-20 years from now his trilogy won't be at the top of the list the way some of yall champion it. Saying Batman in a Superman film cheapens Batman and only works in the comics cuz they have history doesn't make sense and isn't an excuse. They're making the history right now. If you want to go against something new cuz it hasn't been done before, go ahead. Even if they fail, they'll try again a couple years later til they get it right.

Woah!!! Terrific casting IMO!

James Spader Cast as Ultron in Avengers Sequel!
by Spencer Perry
August 29, 2013

Marvel has just announced that Emmy award-winning actor James Spader has been cast as Ultron in the upcoming sequel Avengers: Age of Ultron. Spader is most well known for playing Alan Shore on both "Boston Legal" and "The Practice," as well as Dr. Daniel Jackson in the Stargate movie.

Originally created by Hank Pym (Ant-Man) in the source material, Ultron has long been a chief villain for The Avengers since their inception.

Featuring favorites from the first "Avengers" film and new Marvel characters never before seen on the big screen, Avengers: Age of Ultron will open in theaters on May 1, 2015.

I joked about this in the movie thread but now RDJ can get revenge on Spader for what he did to him in Less Than Zero

Watching "Now you see me" and Franco's little brother would actually wouldn't be a bad fit for a young Gambit....I like that kid...he needs to get some more notable roles.

naw he sucks. i think he just gets roles because hes james franco brother...

the only movie he seemed ok in was 21 jumpstreet because he was a comedy act...

plus hes banging annie from community so that makes me dislike him even more lol

1000

Damn. Grace was annoying in that video. I usually like her. Really this is sexism? :x
I too have been wondering what her costume would be like actually.

It would be cool if in 2045 when Marvel Studios finally gets back X-Men Wanda cast a spell which destroys that cluster**** abomination of a universe.

As for 2015 I hate all star wars movies. Probably didnt help that I started with 1 and 2 thinking they were originals. But then again when you take the pod racing crap out of that movie it wasnt as bad as the original trilogy (yah I said it). Couldnt get to the end of any of them. But I am curious as to how the VII, VIII, IX will be.

I have mixed feelings about Age of Ultron and was looking forward to MoS2 until this thread talked me out of it and they casted ben affleck.

I agree with everything you just said. No talent in him whatsoever. Alison Brie is far above his league.

They should have saved Zod for MOS2. In MOS, supes could have fought like.... Idk parasite. He defeats him at the end right before the credits, Zod's tv message plays. MOS2 picks up right directly after the message and is pretty much like the second half of the MOS movie we got with JL members sprinkled thru out minus MM (save him for a JL movie) Flash saving perry, the girl and that guy in the rubble scene, WW showing up and mopping the floor of the kryptonians in Smallville (they don't have a handle of their powers yet and let's he real it WW), Batman using the info and tech from the space ship builds some similar machine that opens the phantom zone. GL? Idk but I just think that in MOS its weird none of the heroes show up when a world changing event was popping off.

Sorry for the wall of text. I'm on my phone.

I don't think Parasite being the main villain would have worked since this is an origin film. The only villains that could really form him to what he is are Zod, Lex or Brainiac. If they started the film where he is already established himself as Superman, a la Burtons Batman, then it could work. But the way they started the film in Krypton and with Zor-El, etc... anyone outside of those 3 villains would work.

I wouldn't say it's limited, for a big name hero (arguably the biggest), his villains isn't as big or interesting as Batman or Spideys.

You're right about parasite. That's why I was like idk i just used him cause I watched All Star Superman recently. I just think they missed an opportunity. I mean ZOD was a world altering event. You telling me none of those other heroes wouldn't have shown up in some capacity? Ok they might not. Lol man I'm bored at work

The Zod event happened quickly, it was in the span of 2-3 days from the time they demanded Kal surrenders? Then the destruction happened and it stopped within a few hours? So there aren't much time to react, especially if you are a recluse person trying to hide your power. We really do not know if the GL will be reboot so we do not know if he already exist or not and it seems like Batman already exist by the way they are doing MoS2 so we'll see how they go from here. No other hero exist in this DC filmverse yet either, at least not known. Of course Diana is already strong in Themyscira but she isn't at Earth yet.

They did say MoS will open up that world up though, allow more meta and supernatural beings to exist so this might just be that catalyst that leads others to come out. They can certainly write the JL film as such. It's kind of like asking why did the Avengers not deal with the Mandarin? Or help out Stark?

Themyscira isnt on earth?

I guess it is? I vaguely remember it being rebuilt in the Bermuda Triangle but my latest recollection of it's location was in DC Universe Online and you had to be teleported to get in there so I though it was from a different world.

I get what you're saying Uptempo. The battle/invasion with Zod was a few days but to me once he hijacked the airwaves every hero could've and should've zeroed in on the Kryptonians. The main guys that will be in the JL are fast enough to make it to Metropolis or Kansas or that other part of the world where the other engines were.

I took this movie as no other super powered beings existed or none of them took up crime fighting on a consistent costumed basis. Also guessing all magic users just turned a blind eye or were occupied.

As for Batman, he was probably having a tough time with the Penguin or Poison Ivy.

The Avengers didn't help Stark cuz they don't really like him  Thor is home drinking mead, you don't really want the Hulk to "help", Cap probably isn't fairing much better than Rhodey in that final battle, so you got BW and Hawkeye that could help but who are S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. It's really up to Tony to ask for help in that situation and say it's an Avengers worthy threat. These guys aint coming cross country for Stark.

I guess limited in interesting villains then

Even the cartoon couldn't sell me on Toy Man being a Superman villain. At the very least you'd expect this crazy guy to be real perverse and constantly have children as hostages as something but most times in the comics it's random mayhem at first and the same gimmick with the toys. That's just an example of one of the guys Supes usually goes against.

I'd almost Supes has the same problem Hulk has with a rogues gallery. Even worse for Supes since he's not just the strongest but supposedly the smartest. Should be way more and better villains challenging Superman's ideals to really push him.
