Dathbgboy, what's good? Haven't seen you in here in awhile bro.

Let me tell you what I had to tell my ex when it came to guns and I never had to explain it again  I said that if somebody does a home invasion what good am I going to be if we all tied up in the corner? Imma be looking at you like "I ain't got no answers ma" while dude or dudes is ransacking the house and that's the best case scenario if they decide not to assault us.

That visual was enough to get her mind open to it, then I convinced her to go to the range with me and I rented a pistol and she watched me shoot from the waiting room. Then eventually I got her to shoot. Problem solved. It can be a process and it may not happen overnight but a woman has to realize and respect a man's need to protect the homestead.

With that being said I can't front most of the reason why I own firearms is for the hobby aspect of it, but it's a hard sell to some wifeys so you have to bring in the defense part of it. Once you get them on that you can get your fantasy guns then next thing you know you'll have an all out gin and ammo factory like our very own richiecotite does

Just like our shoe hobby sometimes you gotta work on your woman to be able to do it in peace.

True story...we had a certified OG in my dept when I worked for the govt. Dude been in the game so long that he's collecting two separate retirement checks when he finally leaves. He's 70 yrs old and he liked to get us young bucks around so he could tell his stories of how he used to chase tail all around the world  Anyway he was telling us that his wife be hating on his gun game so he has to buy them and send them to his dudes crib, then when his wife is off shopping by herself he'll have his boy come over with the gun...then he hides it in the attic for a few months. After a while he'll go up and act like he's retrieving one of his old guns from the attic and she's non the wiser because she knows absolutely nothing about guns. Funny thing is he said she'll sit there and shop online and drop $1k on shoes and dresses like it aint nothing.I just found it so funny to see and OG who done been to Vietnam and all around the world doing sneaky s*** for our country and he still has to play hide and seek with his guns. He would tell us "don't think just because you get older they don't bust your balls anymore."

Dope. Saw some old heads. Tried n true gun nuts. (Ruger n glock hats n shirts. Cases full of.guns etc) with the tavor an a eotech gettin it sighted sunday. Thing is alot more compact thAn i had realized

Also they were shooting a round id never even heard of. The 30/40 krag. Loud as fizzuck

Count me in on the liew to wifey about guns n ammo hah. Originally i was only allowed one for protectin the crib. Obv things have come awwys since then haha she still wont shoot tho. Not even a .22

Took my girl out to the range and she loved shooting the Tavor with the EOTech, hated the UMP45. She was actually pretty damn good for it being her first time and she's 4'10" handling the Tavor with no problems.

elderwatsondiggs elderwatsondiggs yea bro, haven't really had much to add or any pick ups so I just been in the stock market thread mostly

But yea, I have to really stop be cheap and what not and start buyin parts to build an M4. Have my heart set on that and a nice lil compact weapon (probably gon get that LC9 soon) but lookin at more different weapons now. trying to stay within the $400 range

It has been a long time since I have posted...I think the last post was about upgrading my grips from magwell to flush fit, but then Sandy Hook happened and I couldn't find magazines anywhere. Had Midway USA send me an update when the magazines were available, and snagged 2 before they sold out (in minutes). After that I got a TLR-1, but I'm still not sure how much I like it because I really like keeping my left finger on the checkered trigger guard (is that unusual?

Here are some pics...

I haven't been to the range in 10 months! I acquired 300 rounds of 9mm around birthmas, but I have had almost no time since my daughter entered the picture....

Loved the UMP ever since Rainbow Six  Can't eem front I get my fantasy on playing vid games with some of these firearms.

But goodness that Sig is so dam handsome. Telling y'all the Sig P22Xs feel so freaking good in your hand. Hands down the best grip feel IMO by far (YMMV). As long as you keep her wet with lube and keep the rust monster away from her she'll be good for a really long time,

E, are you shooting well with it? Most people love it's accuracy right out the box. I'm not sure if I've ever owned a more accurate pistol...between that and my old Kimber for sure.

Dath, you're doing right by the stock market interest. Do well there and you'll be able to fund a nice lil arsenal my dude.

look, i don't even know how there's still a 9mm vs. .45 argument...the 9 only kills your body; the .45 kills your soul 8)

but really, Im glad to see this thread is still going. And some of you new faces got some mean hardware...I spy a tavor, integrally suppressed sbr 300 blk, AR's...tough

last week for my bday i decided to treat myself to a day at the range. I drove a couple hours to the Peacemaker Nat'l Training Facility. It's a joint venture between the NRA and Colt, and it's a world class facility. They hosted last years 3 gun national championships, bianchi cup shoots, a lot of competition goes on there. They also have a 1000 yd range (i didnt shoot it; its only for members and you have to qualify by shooting MOA or better in a bigger caliber (im guessing at least 6.5 grendel, but no 50 bmg, 408 cheytac, etc)

I got to shoot steel targets out to 300 yds with the AR. Finally got my Aimpoint sighted i and in no time was ringing that steel! maybe because I don't get to do it very often, but theres nothing more fun in my book than shooting steel and hearing that ping.

Anyway, Im still working on my "Gucci" AR build. This is all top notch parts, going to my version of a RECCE. Ordered a DD lpk yesterday and a 13" BCM Key Mod Rail. Now all I need is a barrel (16" Rainier Arms stainless steel match)...and a gas block, gas tube, muzzle device, stock, optics.....but im taking my time to space the damage out. No need to rush this, i figure im really only going ot be shooting handloads out of this one; guess i need to start reloading .223 as well.

gin and ammo factory Elder? You know I got that homemade Virginie rye!

And JewSee, looking at those ammo prices, you gotta start reloading man. 24.97 for a box of 45? a box of 45 runs me about 30 minutes and $8.57 in components. 9mm runs about about $6.75 per box. I really don't even buy in bulk, and that includes the ridiculous hazmat fees for ordering online.

what a typo...guess it shows where my mind was at. Cotite I'd love to get into reloading but I have to get settled first...like a house or at least a townhouse setting but not in an apartment. What was your total investment for equipment?

Your Recce build sounds like a winner...it also tells me you been doing research because only place you'll hear recce is with SEALS or on a site like ar15.com where guys post pics of their builds.

tell me about it bruh

Pockets be hurtin after a nice day at the range. 100 Bones easy. I didnt have the space for reloading equipment intially now its moreso the upfront price tag. Id rather jus buy another gun usually but eventually it HAS to happen. Ive wasted thousands of dollars on ammunation in the past 2 years

All in all, about $140 for the press (came with everythig except dies) $40 x 2 for dies (carbide, 9mm and 45) and then supply cost will vary depending on location.

Luckily on vaguntrader theres a yearly bulk buy with berry's, so im getting 124 gr plated bullets for $80 per k, and about $116 for 230 gr plated 45ACP bullets. This year i bought 2k 9mm and 2k 45, and i'll probably run out of that in about 3 months.

Primers and powder are still a problem. I'd argue NoVA has some of the best 'tactical' gunstores in 1 area on the east coast, the tactical crowd usually aint reloading, it's the bubbas and hunters, which means reloading supplies are a pain to find, and if you can find them, your going to pay. Right now small primers are going for about $35 per k (i bought some pre-Sandy Hook for less than $25) and good powder is about $30 a lb, when you can find it (i paid $27 for my second lb of WST, compared to $15 for the first).

Buying online is hard since theres an automatic $30 hazmat fee tacked on to the actual shipping price. Basically, if you aren't buying a few thousand primers and a few lbs of powder, it's not really worth it.

Besides the cost savings, the biggest reason I chose to reload is what happened to the ammo supply after Sandy Hook. Immediately after, I didn't think about buying extra ammo, since i had about 1000 rounds each of 9mm, .45, and .223/5.56. Then after all the ammo dried up and prices went through the roof, I realized that 1000 rounds i had wasn't really that much (for reference, I shoot about 600 rounds, all calibers combined, per month). I ran out of 9mm after about 6 months. It got to the point that i started shooting my SD ammo just to get trigger time (luckily immediately after SH i bought a 500 round case of 147 gr rangers for $190 shipped).

I just want to get to the point where I can comfortably have a years' worth of supplies without changing my shooting habits for the next panic and run on ammo/supplies. That aint even that much; local guy I trade brass with said last year he got fed up and decided he was going to stock up and load 50,000 of each caliber he shoots (and he shoots quite a few calibers). Ideally, I'd like to have about 10k primers, 10 lbs of powder, and 10k projectiles, but that would cost about $1500 dollars, and I'm planning on reloading .223 by the end of the year.

Elder- I was planning on doing a SPR build, but everything I've read shows less than 100 fps difference between a 16" barrel and an 18" barrel, 16" is easier to manuever and lighter, my sneakybag wouldn't be able to hold an 18" rifle, barrel legnth doesn't have any effect on accuracy, and I don't have a range long enough where I would need that extra velocity (over 500 yds). 16" does everything I need it to do. And I have spent a good amount of time salivating over the picture threads on ARFCOM and M4carbine.

My DD lpk came in today, andWhen I get my KMR in Friday, I'll take a few pics of everything I have. I think Im going to drop my lower stuff off to VA Arms and get Robb to assemble my lower (I could do it myself, but I'd rather have a true professional do it and do it right i.e. staking the castle nut)

*edit* sorry for the long *** post

I've been there to my dude, dropping 200 on a 2 hour shoot (and that was 3 yrs ago)

I feel you on buying another gun instead of ammo, but what are you gonna shoot out of those guns?

I'm at the point now where I don't think I'mgoing to buy any more guns, just ammo, training, and upgrading my stuff as necessary. Im hurting to send my 1911 off to get customized so bad, I priced everything I want done to it, and it's gonna cost $800 before refinishing. That's not even everything I want to do to it, that's just like my bare minimum of things I want done to it. With that kind of money, I'm alomst tempted to say eff it and just save up money for used Baer Thunder ranch or Brown Special forces. Eventually I'll do it, but for the time being, that's going in the "when I hit the lottery" folder.

Found a LC9 for $320 on a site, just have to verify legitimacy of the site. Got an FFL near me that charges $20 so I'm lookin at $350 shipped for it. Will look for some places that will match the price when the time comes. Wife is half way on board

Check out the SR9C while you're at it.

A few more pieces came in this week; DD lpk and BCM KMR. The KMR is unbelievably light. KeyMod is definitely not a fad, it's the future. Im tempted to put the lower together myself this weekend...

If ur gettin it to cwrry everydwy n thays it get the lc9. If ur gunna range it n what not get the 9c. sr trigger is infintely better for acciracy than the lc line. U hafta squeeze that trigger till its n ur palm basically. The sr breaks like a rod. Best trigger ive had n my limited history of semis. Def much nicer than glock/m&p n terms of crispness

nah. Jus hafta know where to look, inpact/midway/CTD

If u want widely avilable mags and parts. Glock >
