NT's LEGAL Gun Thread UPDATE...First Youtube Firearm Review Page 61

For those of you that keep a handgun at the bedside, what kind of safe do you have, if any? I don't have kids and just live with my girl, but if my house got broken into I'd want to make sure my gun stays put.

Currently have this. Everything worked fine up until a month ago. Went to put my passcode in and it didn't open. Tried to change the battery but that didn't solve the problem. Needless to say I removed everything out of it and have been looking for another one.

What do yous think a good 7.62 would be to get? I don't know a lot about rifles. I've shot a ak but I like the ar type style better

Beware of larger-diameter cartridges with the AR-15. Since the external dimensions of the bolt stay the same, the rim at the bolt face must be thinner to accommodate the larger-diameter case of the 7.62x39, which causes this:

I would expect this not to be an issue with AR-10 type rifles, which were designed from the ground up for the 7.62x51 NATO. I don't know what availability is like for AR-10s in that caliber, but I would assume it would be hard to find because AR-10s in general are much less common than AR-15s.

ALSO, I have read about issues with:

1) magazine performance due to the straight AR mag wells. Look at how curved a normal AK mag is, which is a function of the cartridge shape; an AR mag (and the mag well it goes in) is much straighter. This would affect AR-15s as well as AR-10s.

2) feed ramp needing modification to feed 7.62x39 reliably.

I don't own an AR, because I prefer AK-style rifles. They are cheaper (both rifle and ammo), more reliable, and were designed from the ground up to fire the 7.62x39 (which I prefer to 5.56×45mm NATO). While ARs edge out AKs in precise target shooting, for all practical defense applications under 150 yards, the AK is the better choice, IMO.

The one thing that always bugs me about AKs is the horrible sights. If you do get an AK, look for one that has rails (or one where they're easy to add, for example by swapping with grips that have them built in, etc) so you can add a red dot etc. I dunno why iron sights are always so bad on AK-style rifles...?

I'd argue that ARa are cheaper than AKs now...seems like every AK I want they want 700 and up...paid for my AR 600 out the door...

I too am looking at AKs, but are kinda pricy. A milled AK is priced a few 100s more than a milled AR. The stamped receiver variety of both are substantially cheaper of course.

Perhaps milled vs stamped is the difference in price that @Velle23  mentioned.

The AK was designed around being able to be manufactured inexpensively, which was one of the lessons learned from its predecessor, the SKS.

Yeah ak sights take some getting used to. Once you sight it in you still have to bury the front post if you're shooting close etc. I'm throwing a red dot on mine one day. They also abuse the hell out of your shoulder with a wood stock.

I'd take a stamped ak all day over a milled. They are lighter. It's not like I want an ak for a safe queen. Just give me a cheap ak and I'm good. The only problem I have with them is once they get hot accuracy goes out the window. A heavy barrel would be nice. You're still hitting a dinner plate group at 100 yards though.

Hey bros
Reviews on the m&p 15-22?
A friend has one and I shot it and loved it. I have an AR chambered in 556 but with this lay out in 22LR it's straight up fun. I sighted it for him in about 10 minutes/easy to take apart/options for sights etc. Its hard not to mag dump on it because there's no recoil plus 22 is pretty cheap.

AK FTW. Depending on where you shoot/what the range allows ammo wise/how often you shoot you can't lose with the price of steel cased 7.62. I've got both AR/AK and i'd give the sights/ergonomics/customization/ease of use to the AR. On the other hand power/maintenance/cost of ammo/cost of actual rifle (even though AK's seem like they're going up) to the AK. It's something about that 7.62 round/an AK in general that I love but if you get a quality AR and take care of it you really wont regret either one.

I've got a Sig P226 and a Sig P239. Going to get an AR 15 soon. Don't really know where to start though. Should I do a fresh build or buy something and swap out parts?

Speaking of Mossbergs

I'm not sure if this has been discussed. What do you guys think of the Mossberg 715 Tactical 22 Long Rifle

I heard it's a fun gun to shoot. It's cheap and so is the ammo

Looking at getting a shotgun mossberg 500 to be exact which variant would y'all recommend

can't go wrong with a Mossberg or Remington really, can buy a lot for them, and it's not plastic like the 88.
