I agree. I'm really curious what albums this guy thinks are classics and what his favorite MCs are.
I don't think the scores are really made to be aligned with each other. More or less, it's just how good it is compared to how good he see's it could have been. He isn't really on that "oh I gave album A an 8, and Album B a 7.5, therefore, album A is Better" @#$%. It isn't that.

I mean he's stated before if the main thing you take from his reviews is the bull@#$% score at the end that isn't nearly important as what he's saying about the actual music, then you probably shouldn't be paying mind to his reviews in the first place.
It's not the number that I'm worried about but honestly I've only really seen him for the most part trash albums. I'm just curious what this guy feels is a bonafied classic.

There's some heat with their good qualities on here but after listening to Camp in it's entirety I'm sceptical that he's a little one dimensional. Crooning hooks is not diversity.

Edit - I more or less agree with Fantano.

what do you mean recycling Freaks and Geeks?
Have you listened to Culdesac and his music prior to Freaks and Geeks?

he's not recycling, I feel like he is doing the opposite, fresh air in music.

Freeks and Geeks - References, @#$%ing girls of many different ethnicities, more pop culture references, being black and appealing to white people. <--- Suprise suprise, that's 50% of CAMP's content.

Yes

Try listening better maybe. I like him, I want him to do well, but don't talk to me if you're trying to say that he isn't recycling. I mean the lines are @#$%ing interchangeable between songs

I don't want you to think I'm missing the point of why it's appealing and enjoyable - I get it. I can enjoy the stuff he put out originally. It's cute punchlines that are in your face enough you never really have to think about and can just chill,

, and have fun with. But you can't build a career on that corny empty punchline @#$%. It becomes shallow and transparent very quickly. If I want references references and references I'll watch community.

which artist honestly comes out with brand new content every line, every song, every album?  if that's what you consider recycling, then every single artist, band, and musical composer recycles music, which I don't think is a valid assessment for any type of musical work produced.
In terms of content, that's exactly what Gambino is known for.  He's addressed this several times over throughout his tracks through the past years, and if you don't like it, then don't listen because you know damn well that he sticks to what he knows as opposed fabricate "hip hop" content to appease "real hip hop heads".  Hell, "backpackers" was made with full intention to state that he was doing the complete opposite and that he was gonna do him.

"All I do is make the stuff I wanna write /

Reference shows I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bit /

Now I'm firefly like a burning kite"

-Firefly

"I'm not trying to come hard, I'm trying to come me /

That's why these older songs that I used to make I'd release free /

What's the point of rap if you can't be yourself, huh? /

That's why I come first like my cell phone /

I'm a role model, I am not these other guys /

I rap about my d- and talk about what girls is fly /

I know it's dumb, that's the f- reason I'm doing it /

So why does everyone have a problem with talking stupid s-/"

-All the shine

In terms of all of these critical reviews on his content, he addressed it himself, so I don't get what everyone is up in arms for.  If you don't like his content, then move on.  That's like listening to Taylor Swift and saying, I don't like how all she sings about is boys, romance, falling in love, and then breaking up.  She does that every album!! UGHHH!!  Aside from fabricating their content, artists can only write about what they know best, that's how they add that honest emotion into a track and there's no other way around that really.

In terms of "you can't build a career on that corny empty punchline @#$%", I understand his music is saturated with punchlines, similes and references but to say it's built on empty punchlines seems exaggerated.  If I really listen, I pick up on some of the most obscure stuff that I have to actually look up, and this is the 12th/13th time through.  Maybe you're just the best punchline translator that picks up every punchline from the start, but there's a deeper meaning to some more powerful hidden punches than just those on the surface.

In terms of not being able to build his "career", I don't even think he considers this a "job", it's just something he loves doing and it shows.  He released culdesac for free, you think he cares about building income from this?  This is his side project, what he loves enough that he just wants to share with the world, pro bono.  That's when you know someone loves what they're doing.  Other artists, it's hard to decipher because there are always ulterior motives of having to make X hit singles, striving for X soundscan number.  You take those influences out of the equation, and you're left with just the artist's intent, which is what music should really be about.

Lastly, the "glee clubish", I don't even care to reply to.

Maybe I'm too diehard of a fan, but he's a breath of fresh air to hip hop.  Someone completely new. He's like a Kanye in that he does it his own way, regardless of public perception.  He doesn't care about quotas and meeting expectations.  The way Kanye wanted to produce Diamonds music video how he wanted it, so he fronted the funding himself.  They both produce their material and content based off of what they believe is the best, uninfluenced by outside pressures.

There's very few individuals like that in this industry or any industry for that matter, so I really respect them for holding their ground to produce a product the way that they envisioned it (I guess you can throw Steve Jobs in there too).

just my perspective

Ohok, that's cool. I mean I don't think he trashes albums that often, and he's obviously never trying to do that intentionally if he does.
I disagree with him regularly and even then it's always clear to see where he's coming from so it's not like I think he ever has some sort of bias or random opinion. It's always pretty damn robust. Anyway, here's one that he had a lot of praise for. There are others if you go down the list.

Gotta say L.E.S. is my fav song off this. All The Shine a strong second.

Been bumping this all week. I love the production on it.

The transition from All the Shine to Letter Home is so sick.

I like the needle drop reviews and what not but dude always comes off a little pretentious.

I understand you aren't black so can't relate personally....but you can see where he is coming from right?  You don't have to be black to put yourself into that kind of mind state.
This album is shockingly good.  And it took me forever to shed the "Donald Glover from Community" stigma.  But you can't deny dude makes good music

Spoiler [+]
Fantano (sp) trashed The Weeknd House of Balloons too and that is my fav album of the year lol

Glad I decided to hold off listening to the stream, Camp is dope! The story he tells towards the end on That Power is
