NT, What Beer Do You Drink?

I succumbed and picked up two four-packs of BCBS today for $24.99 each here in Chicago.

I'm having this right now - 5 Rabbit Gringolandia Fabulosa Porter. Pretty tasty, but was hoping for something a little different like the rest of their beers. Decent porter though - smooth, roasty, and had some chocolate notes. I like the label too.

*first $1 off coupon since late June.
If you have two parties, you will need two "phones" each with the coupon. I've been told I needed two coupons even though its technically just an internet photo. Cashiers be over stepping their bounds lately

MAN What the hell!? I told myself yesterday that this month would be a fridge/closet cleaning event where I would not buy ANYTHING and just consume the various products I actually own. BF did me in for a couple weeks for sure.

Then I get an email that '10-'14 Abyss is available as well as an assortment of other vintage aged beers.

I need to live off the grid, I tell ya.

Drinking some Odell products tonight. 5 barrel pale ale. Solid hop notes considering its age. Mouthfeel and finish is of great QUALITY. I think all Odell products are at this point. Isolation is malty and a bit full of some winter spices. Not overly spiced. Appreciated, but would I buy again? I just dont think I would. Odell IPA, sitting at 96 on a BA scale. My bottle is at least 3 months old. Aroma is way down. But the hop bitterness is still there, and Im catching some solid malt sweetness. If I could actually find this fresh, it may compete with Elevated IPA.

Lastly, Avery Tweak. I'm sharing this one. It has a woody bourbon note initially/ You can actually smell the alcohol as well. Taste is just full of chocolate, bourbon, a touch of coffee. First impressions were alcoholic chocolate milk! Mouthfeel seems a bit thinish after many sips. I would call it medium.. Your typical Ten Fidy seems to have some thickness and creaminess for sure.. This sorta doesnt deliver. But flavor wise, and ABV wise, I have to give it a 5/5. Its more like a 4.76. Extremely flavorful. I dont think I would give it a nod over BCBCS though. Pricewise, it doesnt quite match up. Flavor wise, the thinner mouthfeel and hints of almost everything BUT coffee leaves it a touch down.. It's a top 5%er for sure though. If you get a chance, try one to say you did. But beyond that, I think I'm good

btw I paired tweak with some ny strip steaks.. What a frickin COMBO. I think I felt less burn and abrasion with a solid food pairing.

Abyss just hit shelves here in Norcal. Picked up a bottle and will probably do a vertical tasting in the near future with the 2013 I have cellared.

DONE? I'll believe it when I see it.

As far as Abyss, I was lucky to secure a year old bottle last year. It was VERY VERY good. But for $19.99, I think I'm over overpaying for beers, as good as they may be. BF really did me in lol. As soon as I finish one, it seems like my mind is set on trying something else.. Abyss sat around 18 on BAs top 250 list last year. Today it sits around 55. Competition or people overrating beers is getting really stiff. I was tempted to go after some older Abyss but it may be long gone. I slept it off and feel alright. If you're trying to quit buying new items, try to walk away initially and sleep it off.. Impulse buying is the worst

I'm trading my 2014 12oz BC Stout for a 2013 12oz Barleywine....

Enjoy By 12.26 on deck for tonight, first time I have seen them in CT.

In other news, my Gandhi Bot spot started breaking down the 4-packs... Started selling 4 NEBCO Sea Hags and 2 GBs in a sixer for $24+ :smh:

NEBCO's Fuzzy Baby Ducks IPA is being tapped all around me, but hasn't hit my local brew pub yet. Heard the stuff is next level.

Glad to see I'm not the only one feeling a little burnt when it comes to "the hunt."  For the amount of hysteria surrounding it, BCBS really isn't worth waiting in line for or wasting a day hunting it down at different distributors.  Vanilla Rye didn't really make me lose my mind either.  It's a great beer, don't get me wrong, but I honestly prefer 2013's Backyard Rye over the Vanilla.  Not gonna be in search of a second bottle.

However, I took a trip up to my regular spot to pick up a 6'er of Space Dust today.  Da God only got in regular BCBS, but says he very well might be getting a case of BCBCS in next week.  Told me he has a bottle or two with my name on it if it comes in.

Either way, I'm just glad it's over at this point.

^part of the appeal of the bourbon county line to me is to see how they age...so bombers are out of the question since I would drink it in one sitting (not to mention the cost/value)

Just dropped by my local bottle shop...2 bottles each of BCBS and BCBBW $10.49 a piece, limit 1 per customer [emoji]128558[/emoji]

Welp. I lasted all but 3 days on a no BUYING spree.

Went by a total wine. I was out of just that regular six/four pack type beers. How feasible is two bombers a night? So I went and used that coupon code...

-1 four pack elevated ipa
-1 four pack Odell Mycenary DIPA.. Its seemingly fresh so we shall see. March 2015 best by date vs. so many others sitting around 12/26/14.
-1 six pack of Santa Fe Brewing Java Stout. I so easily forget this is 8+% abv and its no more than $9 a six pack. Bargain value stout with a true coffee kick. Ba score of 90+ is respectable for sure
-1 six pack for the pops.. Weihenstephaner Original.. Munich Helles is just so too good. Price wise, its almost twice as much as the others. Not sure its 100% worth it in a tasting or value sense. But at the same time I tend to forget about it when the pops enjoys it. I do however think their hefeweisbeir is worth it
-Grocery store had some fresher than normal Marble Pilsner. You're paying about $8/sixer for what is essentially a step above the AAL macro junk. But at the same time, I feel its worth that extra jump.. If one is to buy just a six pack of macro, its about $7, so for the six pack value, its about the same price. The only way macro wins out is with the 30 packs.

NotoriousLAR, those IPAs seem notorious.. Seek them out for sure. At one point earlier this year, Fuzzy Baby Ducks IPA was the only beer ahead of Project Dank on the top IPA list on BA. Even now, its 328 ratings number is quite low considering that LC Project Dank is in the 400s and that is also only distributed in one state. The tap only appeal is something I'm not really a fan of.

Just got back from my local home brew competition. One of the guys made a zombie dust clone. It was seriously better than zombie dust. They had 20 day old zombie dust to compare and the clone was sooo much better.

See, this was my first year EVER waiting in line. Honestly, I got sick on Thanksgiving and was up all night anyways so I figured since I was up, might as well make something of it. I've have the original and Coffee stout, never the Coconut, Vanilla or Barleywine so I figured let's give it a go. With that said, I'm not sure, even if this stuff blows my mind, if I'll ever wait in line again. Although I guess you never know.

A local spot by me got a late shipment of the regular BCS in 4 packs; I was at work so I had my sister run there on her lunch and she got me two 4-packs....$64!!!! Sixty-four dollars for 2 4-packs! I know this dude is over priced but good God.......I got two because a buddy of mine wanted one but nonetheless, $32 (out the door) for one 4-pack? Is what it is, I guess. Pay for the hype or ****

I did trade a 2014 bottle of regular for a 2013 bottle of Barleywine; I'm actually looking forward to trying the 2013 & 2014 Barleywine back to back one of these nights.

I had spoke w/ a manager at my local Wegmans prior to release of BCBS a to have a pack held for me

Since I worked today I asked my sister to pick it up

She sent me this pic asking if it was the right one

Told her that was it and asked if they had any of the variants and the cost

She said she was eating lunch in the cafe and would go back to the beer in 10 minutes :/

There was only 1 pack of barley wine left when she went back

And nothing was held for me by the manager...he was off today

Ideally would have got the coffee stout if I could but at least I got something

Called and talked to the manager I initially spoke when he was back in Monday

Turned out they did save me a BCBS

Craving a beer while I watch this hockey game but I don't know if I want to open anything from the cellar. First world problems.

Decided to open a dark star. It's freakin delicious but on the expensive side. $20 for a 16 oz bottle.

Today's pickups at whole foods. Also grabbed some breakfast stout.
They sold me the BCBS bottle from their own back room stash for $6. No complaints. My local spot was selling bottles for $14 and I just couldnt do it. This definitely made up for it.

Boy Was I wrong about stout beers. Cracked open Founders Breakfast Stout, that thing is delicious. I guess SA MerryMaker just wasnt my type. Ballast Point Sculpin IPA, pretty damn good. [emoji]128526[/emoji]
