NT, What Beer Do You Drink?

I remember my first six pack purchases. I think I posted them on here. Bought at least a case lol ($9-$10 a sixer was a steal). Sadly it just never really sold well and it was always a old bottle date after its initial release. I think I saw six packs this summer at a place (very old bottles). Now it sits near the 40s at places and sits even longer. Or it doesnt get the shelf space because of its size.. I agree, very bad decision. On a abv to price front, it really sucks. What's sad is, there is a stable lineup of Lagunitas that I do have available almost everywhere. It's too bad they couldnt switch out one of those out. I see anywhere from 4 to 5 six pack set up at most places. Most out of any brand it would see.. Pale Ale, IPA, daytime IPA, and sometimes a pils, little sumpin or a seasonal such as brown shugga

Freshest I've seen has been 251 julian (september 8th) and that's not even at everyplace. Even if its not a year rounder, places seem hesitant to offer it. Maybe I'll pick an older bottle up for old times sake

Sixers of Sucks was sitting where you were? Them thangs sold out as soon as it got on the shelf last year and the year before. This is San Diego though where beer hypebeasts are the norm.

Def a bad decision. I've only seen one liquor store around my way with sixers still in stock but they are 4-5 months old :smh:. In a related topic, I'm loving how more breweries are releasing beers in 16 oz cans now. This is one trend I can get behind.

^ Truth. Nugget nectar was just announced in 16oz cans. I'm also stoked for modern times seasonal can releases. Sometimes I want to enjoy good beer without the hassle of proper glassware and I'd rather drink from a can than bottle.

Stopped by a bottleshop I frequent quite often today and the owner tells me he has a bottle saved for me in the back. He comes out with a bottle of Abraxas :wow: . Needless to say, that made my day. My current NYE lineup (with some local IPA's sprinkled in between). Pear cider is for the lady :D. Hope you all have a safe and happy new year's NT!

Sipping on some Soul Style IPA tonight from Green Flash. Nothing special here. Not getting any of the tropical notes they're advertising. Won't be buying again.

So this happened Saturday night.
2013 BCBCS & FW XVIII
1000

Didn't get a whole lot of coffee from the BCBCS. Still pretty damn good though.
The XVIII was interesting. Just a lot going on. Glad I bought it and tried it. Glad I didn't double up. Not "hot" at all though. I think the BCBCS was more "hot".
Oh and just saw on the FW IG page that Sucaba 2015 will be released at the brewery on 01/17/15. So I'll be on the lookout after that.

This year's BCBCS was definitely more subdued than last year's.  2013>2104 by a long shot.  Having said that: still one of the best beers I drank all year.

Just picked this one up:

People still say "no homo"? ugh...
We're talking about beer in here. I honestly didn't think or mistake....nevermind....
Welcome anyways.

Feels like forever since I posted something of significance. Ive been mostly behaving myself and holding back on purchases. I make about one brewery visit a week and have a couple pints, and may walk with a growler. I guess that counts as packaged sales. But as far as strictly six packs or bombers, it's going on two weeks I think. I've been on a solid diet of fridge cleaning. I want to start fresh, so I will unleash some older bottles here in the coming days. It does help that I was sick for a couple days (no beers.. couldnt smell or taste). So starting fresh seems right.

Back to some reviews.. Anderson Valley BC Blood Orange Gose... I can't really say I taste or smell any sort of orange. I guess its a touch more citrusy in taste. I like it more than the regular for sure with that added taste.. Definitely seek this out if you're into that style.. I can say that I am officially a gose fan (price is a huge turnoff though).

Lagunitas Brown Shugga. I never have had this one and saw it on the shelves at a grocery store. I had no expectations going in. Two weeks later, I stand with no more of the six pack left.. I catch a huge aroma of piney hops with this beer. The taste is some hops and a clean smooth finish. It's 10% though. I feel it is very well hidden. The more you drink, the more you get a sense of some booziness. Not so much in flavor but the body of the beer stays filling out. Seems more like an imperial pale ale.

About a 90/100 seems right for both of these. I've been mostly leaving tidbits of info on untappd. A whole bunch of duplicates. I revisisted two new local breweries. One has gotten better. The other seems very mediocre.

Tonight will be a Marble Reserve Ale 2012. I've had later editions recently. I definitely know what to expect and look forward to.

Any new buys for any of you all?

I've been taking it easy on drinking ever since the New Year started.  Between joining a gym and getting a stomach virus over the weekend, there hasn't been much room for beer in my life.

Can't say I've been missing it all that much either.  Aside from the virus, I just feel better overall.  Not on some New Year's Resolutions tip...but I'm probably gonna start limiting my drinking to 2 days a week.  I've been seeing results since I started exercising on a regular basis and that's starting to take precedent over my vices.

Can we rename this to the "Get healthy" thread? Since losing my smell and taste while sick, my nose is now back to normal, but maybe too hypersensitive. It adds a whole new element to beer drinking.. I also believe in sense fatigue. Your senses can be overloaded. I mainly see it with hoppy beers overloading your palette after just a couple of beers. You really have to start lighter and go heavier with samplings or just drinking in general.

I feel like I need to rid my general area of beers before taking a solid departure. It may just look like a week long binge of vintage beers. But having those gone would give me no excuses to change some habits.

Cheers to change

I'll try to cut down but no guarantees there (sipping on a blood orange gose as I type this ). What's saving my waistline right now is that I've been maintaining a 3-4 day workout schedule throughout the week. Goodluck fellas!

I've also been cutting down. It wasn't a New Years resolution but my gf and I have started going to the gym and we want to get fit for coachella.

Of course TotalWine trolls in today with a $1 off 6 or 4 packs. It makes elevated IPA almost TOO cheap and too good to pass up.

Tonight I finally went ahead and did the Founders Backwoods bastard 2013 vs 2014 tasting.

Blind tasting. I could smell that one was vastly more of a bourbon/wood smell. I guessed that it was the older one, and that proved right. It followed through with the taste. It had more of a complex/organic flavor if you will. 2014 seemed to be smoother, cleaner, and overall just more drinkable. It had a quality element to it. The 2013 may have been on the downgrade as far as flavors, as that wood flavor can start to taste a bit soggy (if that makes sense). 2013 wins out as far as aromatics go. Flavor is all about preference. I couldn't pick a winner tonight..I don't think BWB is worth saving up a year for, as 2014 proved to be mighty. But if it's something you have around or access to, it's a fun side by side.. It's probably the first that I have done where I have actually felt, smelt, and saw a true difference.. A lot of tastings go straight into all of the flavors and smells meshing together

I wonder all the time what my physique would look like if I was never interested in beer. Probably be looking like zyzz right now (real zyzz).
