nvm. yea, its somewhat like the dleague.
Ill explain it tomorrow in detail if you want to, too lazy cause of

right now.

Its just letting another team borrow a player of yours.
Almost how NBA teams draft players and send them to Europe but the right are still owned by the NBA team?

i wouldn't really say loaning out players is something like a d-league. i think in some players' situation it is.  but for example, Adebayor being loaned out to Real Madrid is a pretty big move.

Essentially it is letting a team borrow a player.  The MLS loaned out Donovan out to Everton last year, so that he can stay fit during the offseason.  It doesn't always mean, "you suck, go play somewhere else" Sometimes it's just a move so that the player can get some playing time.

How does everyone feel about Jozy? he was another player that i think fell victim to the hype machine. i feel he has tons of potential. but i dont really know what happened. Poor performance in the WC...no playing time with Villareal. i say he just goes back to the MLS. he was doing it with NYRB.

is it work ethic? I always just assumed his skills never developed fully, like you could take the best 14 year old in any sport, no guarantee he'll be a good pro in his 20s, if he even makes it at all

DGK explained it best.
Essentially it's a team saying "our squad is set, but we don't want you to waste away on our bench or in meaningless games on our reserves team, so we're sending you out to another team so you get consistent burn and continue to hone your craft"

If you loan out a player, you're still on the hook for his wages, the team he's sent to gets him for free, and you get him back at the end of the agreement (typically either the January transfer window or at the end of the season in May"

He was a kid who looked like he had great potential. Okay, I get it.

What I don't get is what exactly was it about this particular guy that generated so much hype that all the other child prodigies all over Youtube didn't get?

IMO Jozy will be fine. He receives more unfair criticism than any other current NT player.

He really didn't have a poor WC to me. He was OK, he did somethings well that no one ever seems to acknowledge because he didn't find the back of the net which, had just as much to do with team tactics and a lack of service as it did with his finishing ability.

The Villareal situation has been tricky this year. It's hard to break into the lineup as an unproven 21 year old on a third place La Liga team, not to mention for most of the season Nilmar and Rossi have arguably been the best striker pairing in the league. Add Marco Ruben to the mix and competition for playing time gets even more stiff.

At 21 he's already one of the most accomplished US strikers ever with 10 goals in just 30 appearances. His goals per game ratio is right up there with McBride, Donavan, Dempsey, etc. He's scored against Spain, Mexico, and Turkey so it's not like he's only beating up on CONCACAF minnows either. My son is fine, he just desperately needs consistent playing time so he can get back into top form.

One last thing, he also needs to be looking over his shoulder. Everyone knows about Bunbury and Agudelo but there's a good handful of attacking players younger than him scattered across Europe, Mexico, and even MLS that are going to make caps hard to come by for anybody not getting consistent playing time with their club.

I'm saying though, there are guys on the verge of busting onto the scene for their first team who don't have a chance of making the U20 WC roster.

No ++%# but I've been giddy with excitement since Milk Cup last summer just thinking about the next four years.

we even got foreign dudes switching national teams thinking itll easy to get a world cup roster with the US, but some of these guys aren't even going to get near a senior cap. too stacked.

the dope thing is 10 years ago the career development of one of these u20s would be huge and crucial for the team, but now we've got literally dozens of these kids with elite potential. competition is what makes a squad reach its potential.

mls may be a joke but the way he played against others at that "age" was impressive, he held his own against celtics when they came from Scotland and he scored too.
