Nat's runner picked off first base by David Ross to end the game

With the trying run on second base

Wacha dealing again tonight.

He was the 19th pick and the knock on him was that he was such a polished college pitcher, he didn't have a crazy high ceiling from where he was already at.

At the time, I asked myself what in the hell is wrong with the above statement

Looking back at that draft, there's not a single player I'd take ahead of Wacha.

Anyone else watching the Nats and Cubs?

The Nat's broadcast keeps showing that kid trying to pump up the crowd, and I think he might be ******ed lol
I was there...******* brutal loss. If they aren't gonna get the call right, get rid of the replay system. The Nats got hosed on a stolen base call and because of that they lost their challenge they could've used later in the game when Bryce Harper was CLEARLY safe at first base. Instead, we have fatass Joe West who can't see over his gut missing calls and the replay studio in NY using people from the Hellen Keller School of the Blind to confirm them. Unbelievable. This isn't a playoff team. I'm pissed.

Major League Baseball should pay to have Vin Scully frozen and then cloned when the technology is available.

Totally srs

My boy Grichuk just smoked a line drive double over the LFer's head :pimp:

Love Grich. Good young talent and really nice guy. Really hope he turns into a star.

And anyone who hits a bomb off Kershaw in the playoffs is good in my book. :pimp:

Concept drawing of the changes to CF

Is that a right angle at the apex of the CF wall? I would hope they smooth that out into an arc, looks weird out there, plus for some reason I see CFs getting smashed up in that corner

Mets' run scored :x

We need excellent hitters if we want to win the World Series this year. We can't rely on our pitching staff this year. Our bullpen isn't good enough to hold games.

I was watching replay of Mets game in the morning. I noticed something. Harvey's sliders weren't looking good in the first three innings. Harvey really looked pissed off. Then he switched to his curve. His curve is money. The best curve I've ever seen from him. So effective than before. What an unbelievable player.

threw something like 10 sliders early and then 7 the rest of the way.

i'm in the camp where you dont need big time hitters, but you need professionals that put the ball in play and deliver with runners on base. look at the giants. no real sluggers there outside of posey and maybe pence. but a lot of proefessionals that do their job. limit k's, draw walks, put the ball in play and get situational hitting. do that with great pitching and you're set.

You do know that hitting and hitting with RISP are the same thing right? They're not different skills. A good hitter is a good hitter in all situations. Hitters aren't bad or ok with the bases empty and become good or great with RISP or vice versa, you need good hitters

So why is it teams have no problem getting guys on base but then can't drive them in? Mets frequently leave 7 or more guys on base each game. Twins consistently hit well w RISP. Situational hitting is very real.

I would imagine pitching with RISP/on base and pitching with the bases empty has a lot to do with it also

It's all arbitrary honestly but I've seen plenty of games Cuddyer and Murphy would come up w men on base and the chance to break a game open and they either don't put a ball in play or hit a weak grounder. It's the little stuff offensively that the mets don't do consistently. During that win streak it was the opposite. Compounding runs keeping rallies alive not striking out.

All you're describing is confirmation bias. When your (sorry) team hits with RISP it wins, when it doesn't it loses. Talk to me in August about the twins and their ability to hit with RISP

it's arbitrary but winning baseball is taking advantage of guys on base and breaking a game open instead of squandering chances. i stand by that you dont need great hitters to win when you have great pitching. you need guys that get on base and do their job when the chance is there.

speaking of the Reds did anyone mention Carlos Ruiz's mental error last night blocking the plate and tagging DeSclafani with the bags juiced instead of just getting the force out? he's too much of a veteran to be making that mistake. it's a dumb rule, the whole blocking thing, but in that instant, the ball beat the runner by a few steps and all he had to do was drag a foot and get the force out.
