Why dont the Diamondbacks move to the AL west and the Astro`s move to NL west instead?

That makes more sense than anything else.

Makes more sense for the Brewers just to go back, but we know that ain't happening for obvious reasons.

Arizona D'Backs were supposed to go to the AL from the jump, too late now.  The logistics of the Astros move makes sense since AL West teams already travel to Texas.

Moving the Brewers back doesn't make sense because they want the team that moves to go into the AL West, moving the Brewers would just cause a domino effect, an ugly one at that.

Why is it too late though?

Why move a team to AL west when there is a team thats newer to the league than anybody else, with no glaring rivalries in the NL and no real history to go by and no other team in the state.

It would make sense to keep the asstros in the NL because the rangers are in the AL.............why have two teams in one state in the same league? (not named California)

I think you just answered your own question.  It's pointless to move the D'Backs now, and lets face it the Astros are not a team with seniority with clout.  No one really cares, and they are getting a new owner.  They can build a inter-division rivalry with the Rangers.

The Astros don't have a strong "National" rivalry that is nationally recognized.

Think of the divisions and there will always be a team that doesn't make sense:

NL

West is the only division that makes geographical sense.  It would make more sense to swap the Atlanta Braves in the East with the Pittsburgh Pirates.  Well what about the Marlins, more on that later.  The Marlins don't make sense in the NL either, makes it hard geographically for teams to travel to Miami, makes for a tough road trip.

East
Mets
Phillies
Pirates
Orioles
Nationals

Central
Brewers
Cardinals
Braves
Cubs
Reds

West
Dodgers
Giants
Diamondbacks
Rockies
Padres

AL

The Astros move to the AL West evens out the leagues.  The Marlins move to the AL East has two AL teams in Southeast which is better for travel purposes.  To make room for the Marlins, the Orioles will move to the NL East in hopes of getting out of the shadow of the Yankees/Red Sox and also in hopes of building a regional rivalry with the Nationals.

AL East
Yankees
Red Sox
Blue Jays
Marlins
Rays

Central
White Sox
Twins
Indians
Tigers
Royals

West
Angels
Mariners
Rangers
Astros
A's

MLB adds two wild cards, moves Astros to AL

USA Today

Two wild card teams will be added to Major League Baseball's playoffs no later than 2013, the same year the Houston Astros will begin play in the American League.

Commissioner Bud Selig announced Thursday that baseball's owners unanimously approved Jim Crane as the Houston Astros' owner. As part of his agreement to buy the club, Crane will shift the Astros to the AL after 2012, creating two 15-team leagues.

"It's a historical day," said Selig, whose new format ensures that an interleague game will be contested "from opening day on."

Selig did not offer specifics on the schedule or playoff format, but said his committee for on-field matters favors the one-game playoff among wild-card teams in each league, saying it would be "dramatic." The additional wild cards could be added for the 2012 season, but will be in place by 2013 for sure.

Dale Sveum (SP) Cub manager?  Eh.  Have to trust in Theo I guess, rather it be Ryno, but I just care about getting talent in there first and foremost.

Pardon my ignorance, but how would adding 1 extra wildcard to each league work?......wouldn't that make for only 5 playoff teams for each side nerd.gif

Most likely the team with the best record will have a first round bye.

I hate that..............changing the leagues to 15 a piece is fine, but that one game playoff is just stupid and i dont see how it helps the game.(even thought there has been a chance of one being played the last few years)
