Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

Wasn't trying to be rude.. but I just figured Pesci is a well known actor that his face is immediately recognizable

But you said you've only seen him in Home Alone.. that to me is a bigger problem!

Go watch Casino and Goodfellas.

NAOWWW!
Those movies have been on to-watch list well before I started posting in this thread.

I haven't gotten around to watching them.

I think I'm gonna have to watch Blade Runner again in the near future for me to fully grasp this film. It's one of those movies ill have to watch a couple of times to fully appreciate it. For its time I thought the special effects and the concept was pretty cool though. Also the ending I saw was when Deckard and Rachel go off in the elevator.

Blade Runner definitely has an existential quality to it. It's like a sci-fi Casablanca & film noirish (tech noir?). I think the flick still holds up well today. The city landscapes Ridley Scott & his team created for the flick were waaaaaay ahead of it's time.

I just watched it 3 weeks or so ago & I still marvel at the film.

Looks like the buzz from the early screenings is great for the Next Star Trek movie...

Also looks like we gotta wait until November 2014 to see Chris Nolan's Interstellar... Per SlashFilm.com the film is about, "a heroic interstellar voyage to the furthest reaches of our scientific understanding” built out of the theories of theoretical physicist, gravitational physicist and astrophysicist Kip Thorne."

Early Buzz: Paramount Screens 30 Minutes of ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’
Posted on Friday, March 8th, 2013 by Germain Lussier

Thirty minutes of J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness screened Friday in London, setting off a thunderstorm of discussion and spoilers about what we’re going to see in the highly anticipated sequel. Don’t worry, we won’t post any spoilers here. We, like you, prefer to be surprised. What we are interested in is what some of the biggest UK publications – The Guardian, SFX, Total Film and Bleeding Cool for example — thought of the footage. Does it live up to expectations? We’ve compiled a few quotes below.

Producer Bryan Burk introduced the first 30 minutes of the movie, followed by two additional scenes. You can read about the first nine minutes here, but here’s are some quotes about the feel and tone of the next 21 or so.

The Guardian:
Without giving too much away, there’s more packed into the first half-hour of the movie than an entire season of Lost (and more than the suggestion that the island mystery show’s creator continues to be a film-maker with a fondness for spectacular set pieces that don’t always entirely fit the storyline).

The 2009 Star Trek had more than its fair share of plot holes, but no-one minded too much amid all the jaw-dropping space-thrills. Into Darkness throws so much preposterous theatricality at the screen that it remains to be seen whether there are parts of the jigsaw that won’t fit together by the time the credits roll.

Bleeding Cool:
It was an unrelenting 30 minute thrill-ride that constitutes a rough cut of the first half hour of the movie. From here on in almost anything I might say could be considered the stuff of spoilers, but if you want an capsule opinion from me before I get into all that – from the portion I have seen, Star Trek Into Darkness looks very exciting indeed. Even if the remaining 90 minutes or so is all Bergmanesque interiors with Kirk and Spock muttering haiku to one another, Star Trek Into Darkness will still be a very exciting film.

The Hollywood News:
Everything you expect, we witnessed. From Spock and Kirk continued in a constant battle of wit, Kirk bed hopping and wisecracking, and space scenes that boggle the mind, this footage promises so much more. It’s exciting to learn that there is a significant progression in the amount of footage shot in IMAX following on from the success of what was achieved in MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – GHOST PROTOCOL, with some stomach-churning aerial shots involving cityscapes and waterguaranteed to blow your mind.

Though the editing, effects and music were not finished, J.J. Abrams’ eagerly anticipated sequel-without-a-colon looks certain to blow 2009’s STAR TREK out of the water in regards to both scale and ambition. And the best bit of all? You’re so engrossed that your mind doesn’t allow you to once think about STAR WARS.

Click on each of those links to read much more about the footage. Plus Den of Geek and SFX also have reports. However, those are more footage recaps than reactions. And if you really want spoilers, TrekMovie goes balls to the wall.

Overall it sounds like the film is bigger with an action focus and, at least in the first half hour, the character stuff is a bit lighter. However even The Guardian, who is the most skeptical, admits you can’t base a full opinion solely on the first section of a movie. And Abrams has yet to finish the movie, though that should be coming in the next few weeks.

I'll always like Sofia Coppola because Lost in Translation is one of my favorite movies.

Plus Emma Watson...

^^^Wow @ Emma in that gif. That right there sold me on seeing the movie.

I'm almost old enough to make me feel weird about thinking Emma Watson is hot, but then when I see stuff like that, nah. I'm good.

Guys. One question.

Should I or shouldnt I spend hours watching THE SHIELD.
Ive seen you guys hype it up. I tried watching the first episode, everything was boring until the final scene.
Made me feel skeptical.

NT is responsible for getting me to watch The Wire though, which I have watched all the way through 4 times now. :pimp:
So after a SO-SO pilot episode, should i keep going with the Shield? Will it really get that much better?
Because The Wire had me hooked on Episode 1.

I've heard nothing but great things about it. Once I get done with this stack of unwatched Blu-Rays im hopping on The Shield.

The last 5 minutes of The Shield is what the entire show is like. If you asked me this last year, I woulda said ehhh...but that's cuz I fell off halfway through season 5, when it was on TV. Season 5 will kick your ***, then season 7 will bury your body.

You don't watch The Shield. You survive The Shield. It's that brutal every episode. And you will be cracked out on it in no time.

There's no point in comparing it to The Wire, because one was trying to tell you something about society, with no real good guys or bad guys, just ****** circumstances, winners and losers. The Shield is trying to tell you something about Vic Mackey, and you will be shook during the last 2 episodes, I promise you. You will be in this thread in all caps spazzing the **** out.

And the last season is the greatest last season of any TV show I've seen, and that's plenty.

That's all. Up to you.

Damn MrO...That was the most epic paragraph anyone has ever used to recommend a show to me.
Thanks bro, Im definitely gonna keep going then after this Laker game.

Big J, i trust your judgment as well. Thanks.

Hopefully I can avoid spoilers until i get to the last season, I know it ended a while ago but I still see people make random Shield references in some threads.

Cant wait to get to that last season and see what its all about.
I probably will be in here with caps yelling and screaming.

Thanks guys.

Im gonna get on it soon.

I haven't been in this thread for a while.
Do you guys wanna know honestly why?
Its because after we had those movie drafts last year, i realized I havent seen a lot of movies I should have seen.

I've been scared of spoiler talk in here so i just decided to stay away until i at least see a chunk of those movies.

Well, i havent been able to see that many of the classics just yet. But i miss talking movies.
And I miss MrO and Big J's analysis of shows and movies.

So im back.

Big J im ready for season 6 of Mad Men :nthat:
April 7th cant come soon enough

Damn new season of Mad Men coming up already?

I was trying to run through the first 5 seasons to be ready for the upcoming season.

Still haven't finished season 1.

The last episode I watched was the one where Don made Roger throw up by climbing all those steps at Sterling Cooper because he made a pass at Betty.

Ran through the seasons a few weeks ago... loved every second of it.

Can't wait for the gang to be back and what happens with Peggy.

I was also put off by the first few eps. of the shield. After several months, I gave the shield another shot. I'm not hooked, but the shield definitely has my interest now.

If you don't like people discussing the quality of the seasons, then no, don't read his post.

I can see how it might influence your expectations, but most of the time, when I see people do that (MrO specifically), it's more of a warning or suggestion. For example, if a show has a questionable plot in season 2 for a character that seems totally bonkers, don't give up and keep watching because it'll be completely dropped next season. That kind of stuff might sound spoilerish to some, but it's mostly helpful advice considering how often you hear people say "I had to stop watching ____ because of a certain angle in season 2" when you want to yell at them "YOU'RE MISSING THE LARGER THEMES KEEP WATCHING".
