Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

I've just had a really bad habit of falling behind on shows.

Never caught up on True Detective, same with Girls, Americans, probably another I'm forgetting. I've been good about Game of Thrones, Mad Men (need to watch last nights episode) and comedies are easier to catch up on.

There is a rumor, which I'd advise most people to not believe or get too excited about yet, that states DC wants Matt Damon to play Aquaman.

They, meaning Snyder, will be shooting Batman vs Superman and Justice League back-to-back

What? They're not going to have Adrian Grenier play Aquaman? Blasphemous.

 Matt Damon as Aquaman

I don't know which hurts who more. I guess Matt will be good for Aquaman while that character has the chance of hurting his career much more. Then again he did do Elysium.

Speaking of, I just watched Elysium last night.

And have pretty much zero reason to ever do so again. Bout as pointless a movie as I've ever seen. Thing was like a series of commercials strung together to tell a story, and I don't even know what the story is.

I was trying to think of a bunch of actors that get top billing, considered A-list, usually are the stars in the movie but everybody is tired of and say they fell off or they were never that good to begin with.

So far I got Johnny Depp and Halle Berry. I'm trying to imagine what it would be like to pull all those type of actors in a movie together that had a good director and good script. would it come out trash or a classic? or polarizing?

Real talk, I'd get the other Hemsworth to play Aquaman (and have an Aqualad cameo). You need a tall blonde king looking dude. Him am Thor are in a similar boat, private kingdoms to worry about, both royalty. Yif you want to make him work, make him a stereotypical warrior King. Matt doesn't have the look, nor has he had that role of 'walk in the room and everyone takes note' ...idk if Matt Damon can fit the role Aquaman SHOULD play...the again Im not liking what I've heard about Wonder Women...they don't seem to want to develop those characters as they ought to be...they have dope origins and could be exploited...

The whole thing seems like a desperate money grab...as long as it doesn't effect their animated films I'm good.

Mr and Mrs. Smith is one of my random favorite movies.

Jolie looks incredible the entire time.

Pitt is his usual movie star self that works really well for this kind of movie.

Vince Vaughn gets you some comic relief... you even get a snapshot of "this is the mid 2000s" and Adam Brody has a role  Seth Cohen is forever that dude :pimp:

The action is solid, it's funny, clever enough premise.. just an entertaining movie I don't get tired of watching.

Absolutely. Whenever I think of Jolie, that movie comes first. She was outrageous in that film.

"What's her Social Security number...?" "No, you're not going to kill her."

It's been mentioned, but don't give up if Season 2 of FNL is a little rough. The writer's strike hurt that season in particular and it's a minor dip in quality compared to the rest of the series.

Nicole Kidman?...Reese Witherspoon?...Harrison Ford or Kevin Costner? I feel like Eddie Murphy counts.

Tom Cruise was up there after the Oprah incident but his career has pretty much recovered. A lot of people are still sick of him though. Will Smith is also getting close to touching that territory for me

Yeah, I think Will pretty much crossed over that line with After Earth. I don't think Will forcing Jaden down our throats is going over too well with a lot of people.

Caught Elysium the other day, and I agree, it was very forgettable.

But seriously, it is kind of funny that a character Entourage made fun of for years is actually going to make the big screen.

Nicole really? I like Nicole. Granted I can't really list a bunch of movies I loved her in so I guess I just like the idea of Nicole.

Reese though :x I must've missed her rise to prominence cuz to me she's never been in a movie to get that labeling. She's like that other not as good half of Sandra Bullock.

Ford's best work is mostly the iconic stuff and Fugitive toes the line between iconic and actually really good but I'd add him in too. Costner imo suffers from that lookalike syndrome back when I mentioned all those older white actors I feel look alike  I think he was in Dances with Wolves. Dude isn't good or endearing. He's serviceable at best.

Eddie counts for comedic reasons. Sucks that you really can chart the trajectory of his downfall. I'd say it went bad around Beverly Hills Cop 3.
^^^ Keanu? I'd put Nick Cage on that list too.
Keanu would count but he's such an extreme case. Like he really got that hype machine but he's really not a good actor.

Nic Cage is a legend. A walking anomaly as an actor. Peep that Community episode.

Will Smith defintiely counts. Even before After Earth. That string of Pursuit of Happiness, I, Robot, and 7 Pounds along with the others just :smh: Turning down Django, hell turning down the Matrix (he possibly could've made the entire trilogy good if he put effort in to his role). I feel like his last good role and best was Ali. I find myself sometimes wondering what happened to the Will in Six Degrees of Seperation but then I stop fooling myself since I know that will is long gone. Then I wonder what happened to the Will playing off Gene Hackman in the better version of Jamie Foxx's Bait.

I'd say Cruise bounced back nicely. He's never really got overrated and he really is a movie star. I feel his worst work is back in the 90s.

But yeah I'd like to see a film with Berry, Depp, Smith, Ford, Kidman, Reeves, and hell throw in Murphy make it actually about something and not some Crash/Love Actually tye of movie and see how it turns out.

Welp, my night is ruined. Craig Ferguson just announced that at the of end of this year he will be leaving the Late Late Show :smh:

:frown:

He joked about it since Dave announced his retirement and now he's actually done it. Great 10 years.

Hope they find a way to put all of the eps on DVD.

I never routinely watched him, but whenever I would catch an interview it was always good. He truly did his own thing.. and his style and attitude was refreshing.

Watched the first episode and already know what you guys mean

Can I read a plot summary and skip to season 3?

Nah just power through it

It has it's moments and isn't embarrassingly bad or anything like that. It's just a step down from the incredible season 1 and seasons 3-5.
