Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

Going to a matinee in the middle of the week is awesome. In most cases you either have the whole theater to yourself or there are like 3-5 other people... Have fun... :smokin

I went to a movie by myself for the first time last month to see Captain America.

I'll be doing it a lot more since I don't know anyone in my area besides my relatives.

also you cant let your inner geek out when you go to comic book movies with other folks.. if they're not big followers of that stuff they'll have no clue why you want to sit through the credits

Yup. If she doesn't want to see it, I'll go early in the am for $5.

Godzilla isn't worth the $5 though

I see movies by myself semi-regularly. Actually makes sense to me since you're spending multiple hours in a dark room, where you're supposed stay quiet.

For me, it's like...I dunno. Something bout the shared experience with someone you know? I kinda don't just watch a movie just for me, but sorta feel it out through the eyes of whoever I'm with too? And I feel like distractions like other people and the little ish they do in theaters is easy to ignore when I'm with people, but would just be upfront and center if I went alone. And I'm an after movie talker, so not being able to do that is kinda enough to make me just wait to watch it at home.

I have been to the movies only 3 times since 2005 (Batman Begins 2005, Dark Knight 2008, and Dark Knight Rises 2012) all solo. This new X-Men has me interested though. Hope to read some good reviews.

See, I enjoy going with my wife, and talking about the movie with my wife afterwards, sure, but outside that, I don't like people and don't really want to be around any.

I've gone to a couple with a friend, or a group of friends, or my parents when I was young, etc, but outside going with my wife and/or daughter, I love going by myself.f

Find a row all to myself, sit there, and not be bothered, just locked in on the movie. If I wanna talk about it afterwards, well, that's what we have NT for.

lynchpin33 lynchpin33 You know...that actually might be what it is. Something like the Batman movies or even like Wolf of Wall Street, I'd go dolo if I had to.

And CP, you're talking like empty-ish theater goin. That'd be a dif story, yeah.

Well, remember, I live in a smaller area. I saw Wolf of Wall Street, by myself, opening weekend, and the theater had maybe 25 people in it.

Sometimes (like last night) I have no choice, and it's packed. But usually, I can find a theater, a good one, nearby that I know I can get in, and have a smaller crowd than bigger cities, obviously.

I have one literally 90 seconds from my job. Nice theater. Few years old, ritzy area, perfectly located, nice place. Place is deserted, always. I once saw a movie in there with like 3 people in the whole joint. Think it was one of the Hunger Games, I went in right after work. Like a 3PM showing or something. Me, and 3 other strangers, in the entire theater.

As for packed house, and by myself.........I'd have to think about that. Not sure when the last time I had one of those happen.

i hate seeing movies when the theater is packed.. cant get comfortable.. then you have people making noises.. phones.. possibly babies

i have my plan mapped out.. if something i'm really hyped to see is coming out, i leave work slightly early on fridays and it's about the same group of 20 or so that are there at the 5-6 PM showing.. or i wait til the middle of the week and go right after work

plus the theater that i like to go to down here isnt the most popular or crowded one.. thank jesus.. also about a 2 min drive from my place.. so i can literally decide last min to go see something

My move is Sunday night last showing opening weekend = no more than 10 people in theater. So I can really lock into what is going on.

Its especially bad when its a summer blockbuster type movie. At the risk of sounding like an old grump, in addition to the things you mentioned, 8/10 times you get some jack***** who thinks he's a comedian making cracks through the previews and possibly the movie. Annoying.

would rather go by myself then go with a bunch of my boys.. One or two of my boys, cool.. But I wouldnt make some sort of group plan with the whole crew

With most movies when I go I actually want to see the movie and be left alone

But you gotta follow the 1 seat rule like pissing in urinals.. If available gotta have that room

Oh aight, I understand that. Don't think I've ever went to the movies with more then 2 buddies at a time.

I also usually like going to the theater when it's empty or very few people are in there but there always exceptions. Seeing The Conjuring last year in a packed theater was a great experience and watching a hugely anticipated film like The Dark Knight or The Avengers at a Thursday night showing with other big comic book fans is also a great time.

I saw the Avengers and Looper in a sold out theater in the city and both were top 10 worst experiences in a movie theater for me ever.

people dont know how to Shut Up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Review for X-Men, Days of Future Past

Worth seeing, especially in 3D. Review below has some spoilers, but nothing flat out terrible on my part.

First off, I fully expect some people to still be angry, call it garbage, waste, this is wrong, that was wrong, everything was wrong, etc etc. I know those people are coming. No big deal.

X3 screwed so much stuff up, it’s almost like there was no way to completely fix all that damage. This patches some things, and helps, but I won’t pretend like all is well in X-Men land now after just this film.

That said, I’m ok with this film. It’s not Cap 2, not IM1, not the Dark Knight, but it’s not Ghost Rider 2 or X3 either. I was meh, on the Future part, 2023 or whatever, but once they set up why Logan has to go back, and how, etc, I was like alright, let’s go, come on. And once he went back to 1973, it felt like a true First Class sequel. And that part of the equation was pretty solid. It’s like they paused the crap, Iceman, Rogue, Storm off to the side, but focused on the good part of the franchise with Wolverine, Fassbender, McAvoy, and Lawrence. I found that interesting.

I should get this out of the way, yes, they screwed up the origins by sending Logan back in time, everyone has “yet another Wolverine movie” on their minds, but that didn’t feel like the case this time. He doesn’t run the whole film, for a change. He’s there, you see him, you feel him around, but he doesn’t dominate every scene, he’s more background noise than any of the other X-Men films. That’s a positive start.

Fassbender may just be the best thing in this franchise. I am loving his work right now. He was GREAT, again. Just like First Class, he is the best part of this film too. And he and McAvoy do solid work together. (interesting note, on the plane, they carry the scene, their dialogue, speaking, back and forth, chess, etc etc, Logan sleeps in the background.    ) Like I said, Logan is around, but at least he doesn’t dominate every scene.

Fassbender and Lawrence, as Magneto and Mystique really are interesting together. I really like them on screen and what their relationship is. There’s something there, a real “tension” if you will. I really liked the play Magneto made in the conference room with her and Trask. I didn’t see that coming, but it was a solid payoff. Those two alone should have a spinoff, and I bet that movie would be better than any of the others to date.

Quicksilver scene was incredible. I can’t believe it. I expected so much trash from that character, and instead he had the whole theater on his side. Really cool part. Hope he can be used more going forward.

Couple things I need to see stopped, asap. Stop shooting Logan and dropping the bullets back onto the floor. You do it EVERY movie, give it a damn rest. Second, stop with the Mystique switching back and forth and back and forth and back and back and back, we get it, the ***** can change bodies, we know, ok, got it, please move on with that crap.

Xavier’s hover chair. :pimp:

I was…..ok, with the whole Xavier walking thing. Eh. I assume the comic doesn’t have that, and it will be eye rolled by the comic readers, and it’s a stretch, to be sure, but for this movieverse, it worked enough. Easier than wheeling dude around everywhere I guess.

Trask and Nixon were done pretty well. I was impressed by that, hell, the Nixon guy was pretty freaking uncanny. The Sentinels themselves……not too bad. They were certainly threats, and dangerous, and showed the level of strength they possessed, but if you expect armies upon armies of them, you kinda only see like 7 do any real work. You see a few background shots of armies of them, but like I said, actual doing work ones you only get a handful. I kinda wished they could have expanded that to a full on force of them, against a full on force of X-men characters, but like I said, no way to incorporate every need into just this one film.

The ending payoff was sort of……welcome. I like some of the reveals they did, and how they closed it. Despite everything I know is wrong with the franchise, at the end of the film, I felt happy, like maybe we’re coming out of the bad stuff, and we might start seeing some of the greatness we deserve. Maybe I’m wrong, maybe Apocalypse will be just another film extending time, and then another film, and another, etc etc and it will all end up with 10 films, and maybe 2 full films worth of solid material, I don’t know. But when the credits rolled, I was at least more hopeful than when I went in.

Maybe, just maybe, some things have been fixed. Maybe they will start to lessen Logan’s role as he has aged and start to focus on other characters, like Fassbender, or maybe even recast some things to get older characters on screen in a better way. We’ll see.

After the credits, def stay around. There is a scene for you to take in.

Like I said, I know there are things that will be picked apart, and rightfully so. It’s not an elite comic book movie, but it’s a better effort than we’ve seen. If I tried to rank them all, it would look something along the lines of…..

X2
First Class
X1
DoFP
The Wolverine
Origins Wolverine
X3

Right there in the middle somewhere, I think. Maybe it could slot above 1, I’d need to rewatch 1 again to reassess.

Now, we’ll see if Apocalypse really brings it back into a good place, or if we just start all over with more crap and Logan front and centerness.

The worst films to see are Paranormal Activity. Terrible experiences in each theater I went to.
