Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

23 Jump Street is probably happening... I'm not surprised and I'm kind of glad. On the one hand, go out on top with 2 great comedies, but if you have fun making them, if you think you have a good idea that will still be fresh, then go for the trilogy.

Three great comedies in a row is damn near impossible, even if the 3rd one is 80% as good I'll be happy.

I really like Outlander.  We've obviously seen the whole time travel thing before, but it's done well enough that I'm still intrigued.  The cast has good chemistry.  The callbacks are really well done.

Chris Pratt is hosting the season premiere of SNL. While the show's at a low point right now, this is still pretty awesome.

Katniss Everdeen is front and center in the final poster for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1: http://imdb.to/1Azdkei @TheHungerGames

For you Hunger Games fans. (Is it just me or is anyone else still thinking immediately about the nudes whenever they see a picture of J Law?)

I can only imagine how many times she's going to have to answer those questions when she goes on the media rounds.

But knowing her, she'll handle it perfectly well, make fun of herself, and it'll be over with just like that.

Since they are splitting it into two movies, I hope that gives them room to fix the problems with the story. IMO they really need to add plot points to what they have.

The pacing of the last book sucked. 2 movies might be a blessing in disguise.

It's a cash grab though, so they might just try to flesh out some existing stuff (or include as much of the book as possible) and the movies could turn out to be just as bad.

Both movies better be good if they're splitting up the final book.

They successfully, IMO, pulled the same thing off with the two movies based on the final Harry Potter book. I know they did the same thing with the final Twilight book, but I can't speak on how good a job they did because I never read those books or saw the movies.

The third book is so different from the first two, I wonder how fans who haven't read it will react.

The 2 seasoms of Da Ali G Show that aired on HBO are awesome. I highly recommend. Have them both on DVD and rewatch at least once a year.

I'm gonna try and watch them all. I'm a fan of Sasha and the schtick he does on the show is right up my alley.

Watching The League. Andre's dead ball era pun  the dude that plays him is funny man. His improv group was awesome when I saw them in LA couple of years ago at the UCB. They did scenes based off the Facebook (group name) of random audience members. The sex addict on the League is in the group as well.

The show they are re-airing on FXX as Rezzurection is all the skits from his 2 seasons on HBO. I was disappointed when I watched becaus I though it was all new material, but no sir, old stuff

I've been hanging on as a fan, but barely.

New season starts when mate?

September 27

The cast and writing staff are both really thin right now. But Pratt is charismatic and also deserves to host, it's a big deal for him. I'm excited for the one ep. Hopefully he brings Amy Poehler along

People have been saying SNL has sucked for a solid decade now. I expect ppl have been saying it for longer like since the original cast gradually left.

So don't expect much. This new crop of cast members aren't that good and the writing isn't helping them much. Seems like more and more anybody with potential is leaving after a shorter time.

Really hasn't been anybody iconic or great that's made it out of there since dudes like Ferrell. I'd guess tina Fey comes closest since but she's really not a solo act and is more a multiple threat with writing being her strongest strength.

They have. Even the cast in the mid to late 90s that went on to yield a bunch of big stars (Ferrell, Sandler, Rock, Farley) was criticized at the time for not being as good as the original cast.

I don't think anyone pines too much for the 1980s Joe Piscopo/Eddie Murphy era though. (

I admit I said the same thing after the Tina Fey era and it ended up yielding Kristen Wiig, Jason Sudekis, Bill Hader, Seth Meyers, and Fred Armisen. They're all pretty talented and have carried major stuff outside of SNL.

But right now is just :x... the cast just doesn't have it. Kenan Thompson, Jay Pharaoh, Bobby Moynihan and Tarran Killiam are probably their headliners. They're OK but that's rough if that's the best they can offer.

The latest member to graduate onto bigger things was Nasim Padrad (she's on a new sitcom), and she wasn't that great. Slim pickings I guess.
