Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

You could make an argument that sword based action has been better than ever in the post 90s era with lord of the rings, 300 and pirates

Og lightsaber fights >> the prequels though

Except for the duel of fates song at the final fight of phantom menace, that was greatness

This. That song, along with the coolness that was Darth Maul and his double lightsaber, put that part of Phantom Menace on par with the originals. Only that part.

How was Palo Alto, is it worth the watch?

If you like indie flicks, yes it's worth a watch. It's less linear story & more a structured observation of like you were just dropped into observing the teens. It could've easily been a crap flick but Gia Coppola does a solid job in her directorial debut.

I didn't know one of the characters is Val Kilmer's son, Jack Kilmer who did a solid job in what I think was his acting debut. His pops Val also has a cameo as a stoner dad. Emma Roberts did a nice job as did James Franco which is saying a lot because I really don't like Franco.

If you're a music fan, I'd recommend picking up the soundtrack too. It was one of my favorite score/sound tracks of last year done by Dev Hynes aka Blood Orange. Dev did a solid job of scoring the flick & helped set the mood from beginning to end.

Forgot to say this before ... But the Spanish chick in Chef/modern family ... Mmmmm

Damn, Stewart and Letterman leaving this year :frown:

I wonder if Jon is going to focus on directing more, I didn't see his recent film but I heard good things

That was my initial assumption when he took a hiatus to direct.. but I was hoping he'd re-up for a little while longer.

Hard to blame him to leave now, he's been doing the show for 16 years, at some point you might just get tired of the same routine, no matter how fun it can be.

Personally, I'd guess he might need a new challenge, and directing is the next logical step. He sees his friends and former co-workers going on to bigger and better things, Carell is nominated for an Oscar, Colbert is taking over The Late Show (which I originally thought Stewart would takeover). I was bummed to see Colbert leave because I was such a fan, but at least I still had Stewart, it'll be weird without both of them on TV.

Jon Stewart to retire from the Daily Show this year.

I'm legit bummed.

Understandable, but maybe they'll find somone good to replace him. I liked Craig Kilborn a lot, but Stewart capably took over the show from him and then took it to a whole new level. I wouldn't expect the same from Stewart's replacement, but maybe he//she will at least not be a big drop off.

Plus, I don't blame Jon Stewart. He's been doing that show for a long time now.

always thought colbert's stuff was better and smarter

stewart was too over the top at times

the way he innovated in his industry is incredible though, he will be missed

^^Not sure what his contract is but he's flourishing on HBO and only has to do one show a week, he's chillin for now

please take a moment and appreciate the wonderful work of the GOAT, john williams

^^^ I once saw a list of the best movie scores and 10-2 were individual movies. Number 1 was John Williams. He's the best to ever do it when it comes to movie music and its not close.
