It would be the 3rd remake I think so you can't really go with the version you saw was the standard

I think they knew it'd suck though. Cast wasn't even as good as the Ripley Egypt movie.

You know what I think it was? Sometimes Hollywood studios think something is going to be hot and IN.
So somebody probably heard Ripley was doing a period piece about Egypt so they put in production to do something similar. So it was probably already filmed and scheduled by the time Ripley's joint bombed.
We've seen similar in the past where 2 movies about the same damn thing will come out in the same year or within a short span of time. Like that Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz spy action romance flick and the Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Hiegel spy action romance flick or the friends with benefits movies with Timberlake, Mila Kunis, Natalie Portman, and Ashton Kutcher.

Big week of celebrity sightings for me. Sunday I saw Vince Vaughn at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach. (He was with his kids). Mid-week I saw Chalky White/Omar in front of my office building. And today Anthony Mackie was eating lunch at the table next to me at a high end burger place in West LA. Was really close to saying something to Vaughn, but thought it would be a **** move to interrupt his outing with his kids.

I loved the first one, though.
I remember watching it on Netflix totally expecting the worst & was blown away by the "bro-ness" level of action
