Any NTers Firefighters

well it sounds like things in Florida opperate alot different then things up north (which is where i assume youre from)

i took FF 1 & 2, at a local academy.... it was about 5 months. the written was tough, but not that bad as long as you study.
getting certified was not bad, as long as you just try and really want it.

getting hired is a diff story, each dept. has a diff process... some places do physical tests first, some do written exams... all depends

some place i applied, had 1 spot to hire, and like 300+ people applied.... terrible odds.
i think i applied at 15-17 diff depts, before i got on.... from up in Gainesville/Jacksonville all the way down both coasts of FL, even down into Key West FD.

i got mad lucky, my aunt is a dispatcher and started passing my name around, and i got on when Orange County FD (Orlando) hired 25.
they are the 3rd largest Dept in the state so that allowed them to hire more than 1 or 2

i just know i got certified with about 24 people, i think 8 or 9 got jobs, half gave up, and the rest never really tried.
you just gotta want it, and keep trying. it sucks, but its awesome when you finally get on...

good luck.

thanks bro really appreacaite it..

does sound like alot.. gonna try and keep push.. i know this may be a dumb question, but when you were training and waiting for the word..

were you also working at the same time? and your lucky to have an aunt moving/pushing your name around

thought about become FF but the PD is calling my name. I get out of the Army this coming June so I look forward to putting my Infantry skills into a civilian Job back home. I'm looking for anywhere in the Bay Area.

City up here in CT is looking to hire about 20 FFers I think, but I swear there is goin to be over 1,000 applicants I feel. The odds are horrible and nepotism doesn't help either.

I was thinking about doing it. It was always something I considered doing, but I'm not sure what I should be expecting. How hard is the physical test? What about  the written? What types of questions to they ask?

it varies based on each dept.

some tests were a joke, some tests were killer.... testing in the middle of a FL summer in full bunker gear doesnt make anything better though.

going through the academy will let you know how physical tests will be... if youre in shape, theyre usually not bad. i mean, girls pass them.

Reviving this thread back up fellas. Recently tested with LA county- placed Band 3. Anyone else out here in LA doing the firefighter route?
