Is it common for schools to have different sponsors? IE: Baylor mens uses Adidas and the females use Nike.

It seems like very few D1 schools have every varsity team sponsored by one brand now.  Smaller sports use footwear and apparel by niche brands (volleyball and Mizuno, tennis and Wilson).

It is common. If I remember correctly, this is one of the reason Nike no longer sponsors Michigan. Nike didn't want to sponsor certain sports.

Most of the bigger schools have all school deals with the schools, even some of the smaller schools do as well. If there is no school deal then I would imagine each coach has their right to pick what they think is best. Some of the schools get a budget from Nike, Adidas, etc for what they wear. Each sport could be a little different based on needs. For example, once Huggs got to WVU, the apparel budget for the men's basketball team increased to $250,000 just for the guys. Before Huggs was there, Nike allotted a certain amount of sneakers for the hoops team which essentially meant they would get five pairs of bball shoes and one pair of running shoes and whatever Nike sent during the postseason (which was usually one pair that team in the country got).  Sometimes the equipment guy(s) would order stuff for other programs for that because the budget was so big.

Another example of coaches not exactly following through on the "school" deal is the hoops coaches using a different basketball than their shoe contract. Both Pitt and WVU use a Spalding ball while most of the "Nike Schools" will use the Nike ball. Each coach could potentially have their own contract with the company. Syracuse and Villanova used THE Rock ball for a last couple of years and have now switched over to Nike. UNC women's soccer took a long time to switch over to Nike from Adidas because their coach, Anson Dorrance, was so pro Adidas he didn't want to switch. When Kansas switched over, Bill Self was not too happy about it because he had a personal contract with Nike, but the school usually wins that battle.

Sorry for the all over the place post but that's what I know.

When Kansas switched over,
It was all about $$$$$$. Nike was only going to outfit the basketball and football team. All the other sports teams would have to fend for themselves. Perkins negotiated and signed w/ adidas because they were going to outfit every sports team including the band. I had a couple friends on the track team and they told me they didn't get jack when they were w/ Nike. One summer KU athletics had a clearance sale of all athletic apparel and it was open to the public and some of the first people in line were members of the KU track team.
